Southwest Range Services is seeking a highly qualified Safety and Occupational Health Officer (SOHO) to serve at White Sands Missile Range. Reporting directly to the Director of Safety and Environmental Services, the SOHO provides essential technical expertise and operational support to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across all SRS-supported sites. The primary mission of this role is to assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive safety programs that strictly adhere to Department of Defense (DoD), Army, and OSHA standards. This position is critical for maintaining high-hazard range safety while supporting mission-critical testing operations. The SOHO is responsible for a wide range of program management and field duties. This includes ensuring all SRS operations comply with OSHA regulations, DA PAM 385-10, and specific WSMR range safety protocols. The officer will conduct frequent field audits and industrial hygiene surveys to identify and mitigate physical and health hazards, performing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Risk Management assessments for high-risk activities. When incidents or near-misses occur, the SOHO will lead the investigation to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. Furthermore, this role serves as a primary safety liaison, developing and delivering safety training programs such as Fall Protection and Heat Stress Prevention to a diverse workforce. Success in this role requires a high level of administrative and technical competence. The SOHO must possess advanced computer skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 365, MS SharePoint and MS Teams environment including document management and data manipulation and analysis to manage the heavy documentation requirements of the position. This includes utilizing Excel for data tracking and trend analysis, Word for drafting formal Standard Operating Procedures and Accident Prevention Plans, and PowerPoint for delivering professional safety briefings to leadership. The candidate must be adept at using digital tools for real-time reporting and must be comfortable navigating proprietary government safety databases. Qualified candidates will typically possess 3–5 years of experience in safety and occupational health, preferably within a military or defense contracting environment. Professional certifications such as a CSP, ASP, or OHST are highly preferred. Due to the nature of the location, the SOHO must be physically capable of performing field work in the rugged desert terrain and extreme weather conditions of White Sands Missile Range. Meticulous organizational skills, strong technical writing ability, and a proactive approach to risk mitigation are essential for this leadership-support role. This position will require on-site presence and the availability to work during scheduled business hours. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance is mandatory.
