Civil Estimating Manager at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. – Phoenix, Arizona

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Civil Estimating Manager to join our Civil preconstruction team in our Phoenix office. This role will assist the preconstruction team with all aspects of estimating, including quantity take-off, bidding, and estimate development of the civil scope on commercial projects, renewable energy projects, and civil infrastructure projects. The Estimating Manager may lead or manage the preparation of civil estimates for these projects which primarily include earthwork, sitework, and/or wet utilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop or manage the preparation of civil cost models and GMP estimates for CMAR, Design Build, and Hard Bid construction projects
• Participate in the internal estimate review process and assist with final assembly of estimate presentation for owner
• Evaluate bids and develop scope comparison documents
• Prepare contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts, and direct information/documents to subcontractors
• Collaborate with internal partners and engineers to help influence project design
• Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors and clients, and represent McCarthy at industry events
• Perform quantity take-offs and aid in change order pricing
• Review of the project documents to identify value engineering suggestions and alternative pricing
• Communicate with engineers and owners to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Construction Management or Engineering and 3-6 years of equivalent experience required
• Self-perform civil experience (field or estimating) is strongly desired
• General technical knowledge of civil construction, with specific experience in commercial, renewable energy, and/or civil infrastructure projects is preferred but not required.
• General knowledge of construction principles and processes, as well as negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports
• General knowledge of estimating software including HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, and/or On-Screen Takeoff is preferable, but not required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook
• Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to estimating
