Job Overview

Ideal Construction is hiring a hands-on Project Manager / Foreman to run asphalt and excavation projects from start to finish. This is not a clipboard positionyoull be in the field leading crews, coordinating materials and subcontractors, solving problems in real time, and ensuring jobs are completed on time, on budget, and to spec. The ideal candidate is a field-savvy leader who takes ownership, drives productivity, and isnt afraid to get their boots dirty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Field Leadership & Production
    • Lead daily field operations for asphalt paving and excavation crews

    • Set and manage daily/weekly production goals

    • Ensure grade control, quality workmanship, and spec compliance

    • Troubleshoot field issues quickly and independently

    • Enforce safety and crew discipline on site

  • Project Management
    • Manage scheduling, sequencing, and manpower planning

    • Coordinate materials, equipment, trucking, and subcontractors

    • Track job cost, productivity, and budget-to-actuals

    • Identify issues early and adjust plans as needed

  • Communication & Coordination
    • Act as primary liaison with owners, GCs, engineers, and inspectors

    • Lead pre-job and post-job meetings

    • Manage scope changes and change orders effectively

  • Estimating & Planning Support
    • Assist with takeoffs and production input during pre-bid

    • Provide field-based feedback to improve estimating accuracy

    • Support development of realistic schedules and bid strategies

  • Accountability & Results
    • Deliver jobs on schedule and within gross margin targets

    • Improve crew consistency and minimize rework

    • Develop team members and uphold performance standards

Qualifications
  • Experience
    • 715+ years in asphalt paving and/or excavation

    • Proven background as a foreman or superintendent

    • Experience running full jobs, not just tasks

    • Strong background in asphalt, earthwork, utilities, or grading

  • Technical Skills
    • Reads and understands construction plans and specs

    • Expert in grade control, slopes, production rates, and crew planning

    • Familiar with GPS/machine control (preferred)

    • Experience with job cost tracking and basic scheduling tools

  • Leadership Traits
    • Calm, respected, decisive leader who holds teams accountable

    • Hands-on, leads from the frontnot the truck seat

    • Can coach, push, and perform under pressure

Preferred (Not Required)
  • Experience in growing contractors ($5M$30M+)

  • Exposure to managing multiple jobs simultaneously

  • Estimating or bid review involvement

  • CDL or OSHA 30 certification
