About This Position

Description:

Job Summary: A Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to support healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient orthopedic spine care. This role requires a combination of medical knowledge, technical skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.

Key Responsibilities &* Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Vital Signs and Patient Assessment:
  • Record and monitor vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
  • Assist in patient assessments and communicate findings to healthcare providers.
  1. Patient Preparation:
  • Prepare patients for examinations or medical procedures.
  • Assist with positioning and draping during examinations.
  1. Specimen Collection and Testing:
  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Perform basic point-of-care tests, such as blood glucose monitoring.
  1. Medication Administration:
  • Assist with administering medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Educate patients on proper medication administration and potential side effects.
  1. Medical Procedures:
  • Assist with minor in-office medical procedures.
  • Set up and clean medical instruments and equipment.
  1. Patient Education:
  • Provide patients with information on medications, treatment plans, and preventive care.
  • Answer patient questions and address concerns.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Reception:
  • Greet and assist patients, check them in, and verify/update patient information.
  • Schedule appointments and manage the appointment calendar.
  1. Electronic Health Records (EHR) Management:
  • Enter patient information accurately into the EHR system.
  • Ensure timely and complete documentation of patient encounters.
  1. Billing and Coding:
  • Assist with billing and coding procedures.
  • Complete insurance forms and obtain pre-authorizations.
  1. Phone and Communication:
  • Answer phone calls, handle inquiries, and take messages.
  • Communicate with patients, other healthcare providers, and support staff.
  1. Scheduling and Coordination:
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate referrals.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to facilitate patient care.
  1. Administrative Support:
  • Perform general administrative tasks, such as filing, faxing, and data entry.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant training program preferred.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification may be necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and other medical software.

Working Conditions:

  • Typically works in a clinical or office setting.
  • May be required to stand for long periods and lift or move medical equipment.
