JOB SUMMARY
The editor of The Angelos is a visionary storyteller and strategic leader who advances Kappa Delta’s voice through its flagship publication. This role sets the editorial vision for the magazine — published three times a year and shared with more than 211,000 members in print and even more digitally — delivering compelling, mission-driven content that informs, inspires and connects a nationwide membership across generations. They manage the full production lifecycle from concept to print and digital distribution, and oversee budget, vendor and print partnerships. Equal parts creative director, project manager and author, this leader strives to continuously elevate quality, engagement and impact, ensuring every issue of The Angelos reflects the strength, relevance and enduring sisterhood of Kappa Delta.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Sets and executes the editorial vision for the Kappa Delta magazine in alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities and confidence platform.
• Works with staff and national leadership to effectively capture and tell Kappa Delta’s story, and communicate organizational priorities and changes to the membership and external audiences.
• Owns the production timeline and drives project management from conceptualization through print and distribution.
• Develops content through ideation, research, writing, delegating assignments, editing, fact-checking and working with content contributors.
• Provides creative direction to and collaborates with the publication graphic designer.
• Leads a team of staff and volunteer writers and proofreaders to ensure consistency with KD brand voice and AP Style.
• Facilitates collaboration – with the marketing & communications team, National Council members, contributing writers and proof readers – throughout the creative process.
• Manages the Angelos budget and billing, and every three years, conducts an RFP to negotiate the printing contract.
• Manages the Angelos print distribution process and postage updates, as well as the creation of The Angelos digital publication.
• Collaborates on the cross-promotion of Angelos content throughout KD’s communications channels.
• Seeks and analyzes readership data, feedback and engagement metrics to inform continuous improvement.
• Serves as the marketing & communications team’s lead writer and editor, contributing to KD’s national storytelling efforts through vehicles like the blog, e-mail, event scripting, and beyond.
• Stays current on communications trends and technology.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree required in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related field.
• 6-10 years of related professional experience, with at least 2 years of project or people leadership experience.
• Proven project management expertise, with proficiency in project management tool/technology (Asana preferred).
• Able to manage complex initiatives or functions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills, with attention to detail. (Portfolio of writing samples upon request.)
• Familiarity with print production processes and vendor management preferred.
• Strong command of AP Style.
• Effective team player with strong networking and relational skills.
• Self-starter, who is motivated and task-oriented.
• Competency in cross-cultural communication and inclusive messaging.
• Proven success using analytics to inform strategy and performance evaluation.
• Kappa Delta membership preferred.
• Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time (Memphis HQ, events, industry conferences).
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be able to operate a computer and navigate applications with a smartphone, computer, or tablet.
• Position may require prolonged periods of sitting.
• Some travel may be required.
• Must be able to use hands and arms for repetitive movement, such as movement of wrists, hands, and fingers while typing.
• Must be able to converse with colleagues via phone and computer programs.
• If working remotely, must have a quiet full-time office space and a sufficient internet connection.
