Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Residency/Infectious Disease in the ambulatory and acute care setting works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The Resident is generally service or MD aligned and works with a distinct patient population. On occasion the Resident may perform some coordination of inpatient care and outpatient follow-up after discharge. The APP Resident has a strong foundation in evidenced-based practice and education and has a responsibility for ensuring an environment of safe quality care. The Resident demonstrates an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

The Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky is seeking an APP HIV Fellow to add to its practice. Under the supervision of clinical mentors, the APP HIV Fellow is a 12-month position that will consist of precepted clinical practice, didactic teaching, and scholarly activity. As a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases the HIV APP Fellow, with mentor collaboration, will have the opportunity to manage highly complex and diverse populations including a combination of outpatient rotations with a smaller inpatient, general infectious diseases service, with a minimum of two continuity clinics per week. Outpatient rotation topics include, but are not limited to, viral hepatitis, addiction medicine, infections related to injection drug use, LGBTQI clinic experience, sexually transmitted infections, primary care for HIV, PEP/PrEP, hospice and palliative care, homeless/marginally housed populations, rural populations experience, mental health and public health/harm reduction. The Fellow will learn to collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, specialists, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high-quality care. The Fellow will be exposed to the APP role in contributing to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects. As a learning member of a University Division, dedicated to excellence in medical education, the APP HIV Fellow will have access to many educational resources.

The APP HIV Fellowship is designed to capture the interest of outstanding healthcare clinicians and provide the best education, giving them the experience necessary to pursue a career in HIV care and graduate from the program equipped to confidently care for patients with HIV and other associated conditions.
