Volunteers of America Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho (VOA) is seeking compassionate, service-oriented Respite Support Staff to join our Hope House program.

Hope House provides short-term, supportive stays for adults experiencing homelessness who need a safe, welcoming place to rest and stabilize after a major transition. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in customer service, hospitality, or concierge-style environments and want to make a meaningful impact through a steady, and meaningful presence. Requirements:

We are currently hiring for the following schedules:

  • Saturday & Sunday | 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM
    (Additional hours available to reach full-time, if desired. Shift differential for overnight hours)
  • Saturday & Sunday | 5:30 AM - 1:30 PM
    (Additional hours available to reach full-time, if desired.)

What you'll be doing

  • Provide a warm, welcoming, and respectful experience for guests
  • Serve as a primary point of contact, offering assistance, information, and guidance
  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and trauma-informed environment
  • Prepare and serve meals; support routine cleaning and upkeep of shared spaces
  • Coordinate referrals and connect guests with internal and community resources
  • Monitor the environment and respond to concerns with professionalism and care
  • Accurately complete shift notes, logs, and basic reporting
  • Work independently while staying connected with the broader Hope House team

This role is great for individuals with experience in:

  • Front desk, guest services, or residential support
  • Shelters, transitional housing, or community programs
  • Behavioral health, peer support, or recovery-oriented services
  • Crisis response, de-escalation, or conflict resolution
  • Individuals with lived experience and a strong desire to support others

Requirements

  • Eligible to apply for an Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) credential within 30 days of hire
  • Willing to obtain (with VOA support): CPR/BLS, First Aid, and Food Handler’s Permit
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, respectful presence
  • Ability to work independently, particularly in evening or overnight shifts
  • Must be 21 years or older and able to pass a background check

Preferred:

  • Experience in homeless services, trauma-informed care, peer support, or behavioral health setting
