The VP, Data Governance Lead (Data Stewardship) will drive enterprise-wide initiatives to manage, classify, and optimize unstructured data, ensuring its quality, usability, and compliance across the organization. This role blends technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership to design scalable data stewardship processes that enable AI/ML, analytics, and operational excellence. The position requires collaboration with cybersecurity, AI, and business teams to improve data annotation, classification, and governance frameworks. The successful candidate will influence enterprise data strategy, lead a team of data stewards, and establish standards that enhance decision-making and drive innovation across the organization. This role operates in a forward-looking, dynamic environment that values flexibility, cross-functional teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the development and application of data classification standards for unstructured data across business lines.
  • Oversee data annotation and labelling initiatives, ensuring high accuracy and alignment with AI/ML objectives.
  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for comprehensive unstructured data governance, prioritizing critical datasets.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and AI teams to optimize data models, analyze misclassified data, and enhance algorithm recognition.
  • Refine processes for data annotation operations, platform enhancements, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement with business users, data engineers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to implement best practices.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior team members, building data stewardship capabilities across the organization.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in data governance or enterprise-scale data management, with a focus on unstructured data.
  • Proven expertise in data classification, taxonomy development, and labelling, including collaboration with AI/ML and cybersecurity teams.
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture, lifecycle management, data quality frameworks, and annotation tools.
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring staff, and driving process optimization and platform enhancements.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
  • Preferred: experience in financial or investment organizations with complex data ecosystems.
