Position Summary

The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing hot and cold food items for both à la carte and banquet service while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to recipes and sanitation standards, and the ability to support multiple kitchen functions as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Execution

  • Prepare hot and cold dishes for à la carte and banquet service, ensuring all items are ready at least 30 minutes prior to service.

  • Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistency in flavor, quality, and presentation.

  • Assist with food preparation and line support during high-volume periods.

Inventory & Quality Control

  • Manage, stock, and rotate inventory, including salads, dressings, and cheeses, to maintain freshness and minimize waste.

  • Communicate any inventory shortages or quality concerns to the Kitchen Supervisor.

Sanitation & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in accordance with food safety standards.

  • Operate kitchen equipment, including ovens and other appliances, following all safety procedures.

  • Support dishwashing and general kitchen cleanliness as needed.

Team & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall kitchen performance.

Guest Service & Conduct

At Shanty Creek Resort, personal and professional accountability are essential. All employees are expected to adhere to resort policies, standards of conduct, and uniform requirements while delivering exceptional guest service at all times.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 3 to 6 months of experience in a professional kitchen or food preparation environment preferred.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Culinary training or certification preferred.

Skills & Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • ServSafe certification preferred.

  • Basic math skills and ability to follow instructions and recipes precisely.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Effective verbal communication skills.

  • Customer-focused mindset and positive attitude.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Working Conditions & Environment
  • Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, including hot kitchen environments and cold storage areas.

  • Work around hot surfaces, ovens, and kitchen equipment.

  • Requires standing for extended periods and manual dexterity.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Must be available to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
