Description:

National Cathedral School is an Episcopal school that seeks an experienced and collaborative Upper School Religious Studies Teacher who believes in the power of young women and is dedicated to nurturing their curiosity and potential. This full-time position includes teaching about world religious traditions, ethical perspectives, and sacred texts. Upper School Religious Studies is an essential component of our NCS experience, providing students the opportunity to learn about religion as an academic discipline, while supporting them to reflect on their own existential beliefs and identities as scholars and human beings. This individual will be a robust and energetic teacher, enthusiastic about the subject matter as well as an overall positive member of the Upper School community.

The ideal candidate:

  • Demonstrates pedagogical skills with the ability to differentiate to meet the needs of students with a variety of learning styles.
  • Exhibits knowledge within religious traditions and the broader field of humanities.
  • Uses a variety of approaches to deliver instruction and ensure student mastery.
  • Enjoys being an active member of the school community that extends beyond the classroom.
  • Has 3-5 years of relevant teaching experience and a degree in religious studies or related fields.
  • Displays strong classroom management skills.
  • Understands and appreciates working with adolescent students by providing a safe nurturing environment in which students can thrive.
  • Possesses at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching a full-time load of 4 sections based in the Upper School (US) division.
  • Participating and collaborating within the Religious Studies department to ensure excellent scope and sequence across grades 4-12.
  • Working collaboratively with US colleagues to develop dynamic and relevant curriculum.
  • Serving as an academic advisor and advocating for students in this capacity.
  • Communicating with colleagues, students and parents on a regular and professional basis.

Teachers are on campus from 7:45am to approximately 4pm. Additional responsibilities include participating in department, division and faculty meetings, holding regular office hours, as well as attending chapel, cathedral services, and assemblies. Faculty participate in the life of the school by supervising a study hall, sponsoring a student club, or leading an extracurricular program.

Salary and Benefits:

The full time salary for this position is $65,000-$140,000. The exact salary is determined based on education and teaching experience using a step scale. Benefits available include medical, dental, life insurance, a retirement plan with a school contribution, free parking or transit benefits, and lunch without charge, as well as support for professional development experiences. Additional stipends are available for coaching middle or upper school sports.
