Job Summary

The aide in Endoscopy is responsible for the care of patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic Gastroenterological procedures. Under direct supervision assists the license staff to perform various assigned duties in patient care, as well as care of equipment used.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions

Primarily Works in a well-lighted and air-conditioned environment with period of heavy workload and stress. This role may include working in less-than-ideal home conditions, which can include exposure to extreme temperatures and environments that may not meet typical cleanliness standards such as clutter, unkept surfaces, and homes with pets. Works in various conditions.

Computer Knowledge & Electronic Equipment Use: Demonstrates ability to consistently utilize electronic equipment and online computer programs to perform job duties, including electronic documentation, and order entry.

Resource Utilization: Consistently utilizes and maintains supplies and equipment to minimize lost charges and unnecessary equipment repair-replacement.

Confidentiality: Adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by Shannon Policy.

Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates accurate, knowledge and skill to carry out job duties. Follows departmental work policies and procedures. Displays speed and consistency of output, and time utilization of job duties. Accurately collects and documents patient data as assigned (Vital signs, height/weight, Input and Output). Reviews documentation for accuracy at end of shift. Notifies licensed staff of abnormal findings related to Vital Signs, Capillary Blood Glucose Measurement and changes in patient status.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile procedures; Assists in the preparation and implementation of surgical procedures; Cleaning and sterilizing procedure room and setting up for the next case. Logs and takes specimens to pathology in a timely manner: Assist in ordering/maintaining supplies.
  • Demonstrates the essential skills related to the use of all equipment connected to job responsibilities. Displays an appropriate level of concern for various safety factors when using equipment. Follows multi-society guidelines for reprocessing endoscopes.
  • Works collaboratively with all team members to include staff, physicians, ancillary departments and patient/families. Demonstrates a positive attitude and good communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Experience: N/A

Certification/Licensure:

  • Required
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
      • Must obtain within ninety (90) days of start date
