About This Position

Description:

SUMMARY

The 1st shift Facility Technician supports the safe, reliability, and efficient operation of the facility and its utility systems. This role focuses on building systems, plant utilities, general repairs, and preventive maintenance activities, with an emphasis on wastewater system PMs, inspections, and routine upkeep. The technician helps ensure the facility remains compliant, efficient, and ready to support production needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facility and Utility Support

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility systems, including plumbing, lighting, doors, walls, floors, and general building infrastructure.
  • Support upkeep of utility systems such as air, water, drains, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Monitor facility conditions and identify issues that could impact safety, compliance, or operations.
  • Monitor and maintain all Mechanical Room equipment to include water softening systems, water heating/boiler systems, charcoal filter, and RO system.
  • Monitor and maintain all HVAC equipment to include inline filtration, winterization PMs, and other requirements defined.
  • Respond to facility-related work orders in a timely manner.

Wastewater System Preventive Maintenance

  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on wastewater equipment and systems.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain pumps, tanks, valves, filters, piping, sensors, meters, and related components.
  • Monitor wastewater equipment performance and report abnormalities or failures.
  • Assist with troubleshooting wastewater system issues and support corrective actions.
  • Maintain PM documentation, inspection records, and operator logs.
  • Follow proper chemical handling procedures and maintain safe housekeeping around wastewater equipment.
  • Help ensure wastewater systems remain inspection ready and compliant with internal and external requirements.

General Maintenance Duties

  • Perform basic mechanical repairs and adjustments on facility equipment.
  • Assist with contractor coordination and escorting when outside services are on site.
  • Support shutdown work, special projects, and improvement activities as assigned.
  • Maintain tools, spare parts, and maintenance areas in clean and organized condition.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, food safety, GMP, and all plant safety requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Preventive maintenance experience on wastewater or utility systems.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, beverage, or other regulated production environments.
  • Familiarity with GMPs, sanitation practices, and safety compliance requirements.
  • Experience using a CMMS to document PMs and work orders.

Basic Qualifications (education and/or experience)

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training, trade school, or maintenance-related experience preferred.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance, facilities maintenance, utilities, or wastewater systems preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of pumps, valves, piping, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and complete work orders, checklists, and maintenance records.
  • Forklift or lift certification is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage routine PM tasks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, taste, or smell. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance from co-workers and/or mechanic devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet, cold and/or humid conditions. The employee will be handling items that may be very hot. The noise level is usually moderate. Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and Holidays.
