About This Position

Benefit Navigation Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE

The Benefit Navigation Specialist position is responsible for providing Medicaid and BeWell NM Health Exchange enrollment services. The position is responsible for providing culturally appropriate services and serving as a patient advocate, educator and translator to provide a bridge between the diverse populations they serve and the health care system. The position will work collaboratively within Holy Cross Medical Center (HCMC) and necessary community partners.

MINIMUM MANDATORY qualifications
Experience:
  • Minimum one (1) year of Community Health Worker experience or experience working with community programs.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Test (HSE).
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:
  • Presumptive Eligibility Determiner and BeWell certifications are required within the first three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication, cultural competence and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact compassionately and effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHR systems.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations regarding the release of confidential personal health information.
  • A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
Preferred qualifications
  • Public Speaking skills to be used at outreach events promoting the Benefit Navigation Program.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate quarterly weekend outreach events.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
