Role Overview:
The Junior Social Events Coordinator at the National Zakat Foundation (NZF) Canada will play a key role in delivering high-quality community and fundraising events that advance NZF’s mission to alleviate poverty and strengthen social equity. The Coordinator will gain structured, hands-on experience in event planning, volunteer management, stakeholder engagement, and nonprofit communications while contributing directly to community impact. The Coordinator will plan, organize, and execute a range of community engagement and fundraising events,
including Ramadan campaigns, food drives, and awareness initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement detailed event workplans and budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial parameters.
- Coordinate event logistics, including venue bookings, catering, audiovisual setup, and volunteer scheduling.
- Oversee event execution to ensure all activities meet operational standards and budgetary requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to manage event timelines, registrations, and on-site operations.
- Support the planning and delivery of 3–5 major community events per term, ensuring alignment with organizational brand and mission.
- Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers for events and programs, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
- Maintain accurate volunteer databases to track participation, hours, and performance.
- Match volunteers to appropriate roles based on skills and organizational needs.
- Provide clear guidance and supervision to volunteers to ensure effective engagement and performance.
- Support volunteer recognition initiatives and implement strategies to enhance retention and engagement.
- Work closely with the Communications Team to support event promotion and volunteer engagement strategies.
- Assist in developing marketing materials and scheduling social media campaigns.
- Manage event-related content for newsletters and digital platforms.
- Monitor and analyze engagement metrics to evaluate outreach effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Conduct post-event evaluations by collecting feedback from participants, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Prepare post-event reports summarizing attendance, budget performance, volunteer metrics, and participant satisfaction.
- Use insights from evaluations to inform future event planning and community engagement strategies.
- Conduct outreach to institutional partners, including masajid, businesses, professional networks, MSAs, and high-net-worth donors, using a defined engagement strategy.
- Support relationship-building efforts to onboard and maintain partnerships with community stakeholders.
- Utilize tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms to manage tasks and communications effectively.
- Support the use and maintenance of CRM or volunteer management systems (if applicable).
- Participate in regular supervision and mentorship sessions, including weekly check-ins and formal performance evaluations.
- Develop transferable skills in project management, stakeholder communication, teamwork, and digital literacy.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Community Development Director.
Requirements
- Post-secondary student or graduate in Communications/Marketing
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with social media tools
- Experience with design tools
- Interest in nonprofit work
Eligibility
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- As per section 13.1(a) of the Articles of Agreement, youth hired for a Canada Summer Jobs-funded job cannot displace or replace existing employees or volunteers, employees that have been laid-off and are awaiting recall, employees absent due to an industrial dispute, employees on vacation, or employees on maternity or parental leave.
