Overview
- Conduct laboratory research and development testing, prototype manufacturing, and production manufacturing of non-metallic materials for all classes of US Navy Submarines.
- Work daily with plastics, elastomers, epoxies, adhesive systems, paint systems, rubbers, fiberglass, solvents, and other chemicals.
- Formulate, mold, and cast non-metallic materials for multiple applications.
- Follow and execute written Laboratory requests, work instructions, and testing documents.
- Operate various laboratory equipment including curing ovens, vacuum pumps, water baths, processors, batch mixers, standard power tools, etc.
- Operate standard sand blasting, paint spraying, and powder coating equipment.
- Conduct analytical testing using hardness gauges, viscometers, balances, pH meters, mil thickness gauges, dynamic test machines, etc.
- Work daily with other technicians and Laboratory Engineers.
- Maintain a written Laboratory Log Book containing all supporting documentation and test data required for each assignment.
- Support urgent shipyard construction activities, including on-hull specialty non-metallic component repairs and testing.
Responsibilities
- Basic Microsoft Office product knowledge
- Experience working with measurement tools
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
1+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing facility or automotive shop environment
Preferred Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Chemical / Mechanical / Materials
- Prior experience working with industrial manufacturing equipment
- Basic Microsoft Office product knowledge
- Familiarity with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for working with hazardous materials
- Experience with electric and pneumatic handheld tools
- Blueprint/drawing interpretations
- Experience working with calibrated instruments (scales, calipers, etc.)
