About This Position

Description:

PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of IMDEX tools and instruments. This will be achieved through appropriate application of theory, analytical techniques and practical expertise. Focus of this role is the design of dedicated tools covered by the current IMDEX product portfolio and new product development driven by the product management group. The role requires demonstration of a senior level of technical capability; with a developing capability in leadership focused on alignment and collaboration with other teams within the competency pillar.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTED OUTCOMES

Concept Design, Prototyping Development and Field Evaluation and Analysis

  • Assisting in mechanical designs required in relation to tools manufactured and maintained by IMDEX.
  • Communicating progress and problems so the highest level of customer service can be maintained with both internal business units and external customer interactions.
  • On request from team lead assist in the evaluation of mechanical components during and or after in-house testing and or field trailing of designs.
  • Sharing technical information with the Global Engineering and Manufacturing teams and maintaining strong personal relationships across all business groups.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Mentor other mechanical engineering staff in the design, review and delivery of engineering solutions that apply in the development of IMDEX products.
  • Work closely with global management and engineering resource pool to draw on knowledge and expertise in the agreed areas of research and development.
  • Design work should be completed using SolidWorks 3D CAD Software.
  • Using mechanical engineering processes and procedures to produce conceptual and prototype designs within reasonable timeframe.
  • Ensure project engineering risk is managed through internal systems.
  • Using interpersonal skills to build ongoing relationships to aid in the development and refinement of requirements throughout the design process.

Communication, reporting, guidance and global alignment

  • Works collaboratively with global discipline Head to track, review and guide local team performance on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Adhere to, and foster, alignment of global department policies, procedures and work practices, whilst working with management to account for local requirements and variations
  • Chair local weekly timebox or other agreed forum for communicating priorities and tracking progresses
  • Work with the departmental head to update monthly timebox objectives and priorities
  • Maintain a current awareness of team protocols and implement changes /improvements in a timely manner

ECR/ECN Change Management

  • Complete mechanical designs required in relation to tools manufactured and maintained by IMDEX.
  • Communicating progress and problems so the highest level of customer service can be maintained with both internal business units and external customer interactions.
  • On request from engineering management and internal business units assist in the evaluation of mechanical components, BOM’s and manufacturing related documentation during the change management process.
  • Sharing technical information with the Global Engineering and Manufacturing teams and maintaining strong personal relationships across all business groups.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Design work should be completed using SolidWorks 3D CAD Software.
  • Using mechanical engineering processes and procedures to produce conceptual and prototype designs within reasonable timeframe.
  • Engineering changes will be managed and delivered using internal engineering systems.
  • Investigating equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.

Knowledge Management System

  • Working within an established knowledge management system to deliver pre-set outcomes for area of responsibility.
  • Working with business units to produce user manuals for newly designed tools and on request for existing mechanical components.
  • Working with business units to produce supporting NPI (New Product Introduction) documents for newly designed tools and on request for existing mechanical components.
  • Completing documentation and reporting of damaged equipment that has been reported from end users completing root cause analysis.
  • Design files will be stored and managed in a document management system.
  • Designs should be properly documented to allow the manufacture of related components and assemblies.
  • Changes to new and existing mechanical components should be traceable and kept up to date using company document control systems.
  • Project management based NPI documentation will be stored and communicated through internal systems.

Improvement / Innovation

  • Identifying shortcomings and suggesting improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures, then delivers a plan for a small element of a change management program with guidance from a project/program manager.
  • Investigating equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
  • Highlight and raise areas of improvement with current systems feed through to relevant management team.

Intellectual Property and Patent Management Process

  • Preparing documentation that can be used in the generation and patent management on all mechanical designs old and new when requested.
  • Manage assigned IP product and system portfolios applicable and assigned through management planning stages of agreed research areas.
  • Designs completed will be property of IMDEX and will not be copied or reproduced in any way.
  • Design drawings templates stored in the document management system will be used in the communication of Design IP to the internal IP team.
  • Support IP management team in the technical communication and detail drawing of IP areas uncovered through the research and design process.

QA / QC

  • Responding to all QA/QC instructions/requests within a reasonable time and record all actions taken accordingly.
  • Ensuring all mechanical work / design conform to appropriate standards outlined and comply with ISO9001 requirements.
  • Design documentation should be maintained in a version control system.
  • Assist the internal Quality Department in the qualification of newly received components from vendors.
  • Quality related issues will be addressed in the agreed timeline outlined in the internal QA system.
  • Design files will be stored and managed in the document management system.
  • Inspection documents will be completed using SolidWorks and the document management system.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Recognized degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ Years of experience
  • Ability to prioritize and work to tight deadlines with competing demands.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assemble designs from CAD specification.
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks 3D CAD Software.
  • Financial literacy.

Desirable

  • Previous experience with EPDM document management.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Previous experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) process
