Job Summary
In this part-time role, you will be a key member of the St. Vincent de Paul trucking department, which is tasked with making sure goods are transported efficiently and delivered on time to support our store locations and the community. Routes mainly run within Dane County and Madison, with occasional hauls to other St. Vincent locations in Wisconsin. This is an essential position that allows us to contribute to the many services SVdP provides!
What You’ll Do
- Deliver and pick up trailers to and from retail and service locations, ensuring effective and incident-free operations while maintaining excellent rapport with staff members.
- Drive and operate a commercial truck and equipment, adhering to all safety regulations while performing and logging daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the commercial vehicle.
- Communicate with site managers regarding any questions or issues.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the truck cab, keeping it free from debris both inside and outside.
- Operate trucks safely, obey all traffic laws, practice defensive driving techniques and refrain from using cell phones or other handheld devices while driving.
- Ensure on-time daily pickup and delivery of products and commodities and accept additional deliveries or trailer moves as required to meet business needs.
- Care for the tractor, ensuring regular preventative maintenance and communicating operational issues to the Trucking Manager.
- Secure loads properly to prevent damage and confirm that doors are closed and secure.
- Support cross-divisional collaboration whenever possible and assist in other areas of business if needed.
- Effectively communicate with warehouse and production departments to help ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain a clear understanding of trailer inventory needs across different locations.
- Adhere to all Safety procedures and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Maintain a pleasant, professional, service-oriented environment by modeling expected behavior for other employees and promoting a sense of teamwork and good morale among the staff.
- Act as a champion of safety in the workplace, supporting programs, training, and tools that keep employees engaged in safety initiatives, effectively meeting compliance requirements and communicating issues or hazards to Senior leadership.
- Communicate facility maintenance and safety issues to the Trucking, PC Manager and Facilities Manager to provide a safe and clean working environment that complies with all state and local building and fire codes
- Work with the Safety Manager to implement safety policies through training, reporting safety hazards, and correcting unsafe employee practices
- Work with team members to maximize production efficiencies and promote a spirit of teamwork within the organization
- Represent St. Vincent de Paul in the community when driving company vehicles and wearing company logos by maintaining SVdP standards of employee conduct, adhering to dress code policy requirements for retail employees

Essential Requirements
- Possess a Class A CDL with combination vehicle and air brake endorsements;
- Must pass a DOT drug screen and DOT physical when required by policy.
- Minimum 2 years previous Class A commercial driving experience.
- Meet applicable driving record and accident record requirements (no more than 2 moving violations in the last 36 months).
- Ability to work outdoors and drive safely in varying weather conditions.
- Maintain a good driving record (must be insurable with SVdP insurance provider)
- Actively registered with Clearinghouse – FMCSA
- Possess a current, valid Fed Med card and be responsible for keeping it up to date.
- Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Continual learner, willing to seek additional opportunities to gain experience, knowledge and skills.
- The employee must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen for a safety-sensitive position
- Occasional forklift operation - forklift certification a plus, but certification can be done through the organization's lift training course.

- Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance and occasionally lift/move up to 150 lbs with assistance from equipment or another person
- Ability to twist, turn, crouch, stoop, and squat repeatedly throughout the workday
- Ability to sit for long periods of time while driving
- Employee must be able to fulfill schedule requirements and work assigned shifts consistently and reliably
