About This Position
Nurse Tech Job Summary
The Nurse Tech position provides nursing students an opportunity to assist licensed nursing personnel in the implementation of day-to-day patient care as well as the routine operations of the nursing unit which assigned. The Nurse Tech provides care to the patients appropriate to the assigned unit.
PACU - The shifts start at 0730 ( south) 0800 (North) and we are accepting patients from the OR or GI lab. These patients have a higher acuity and essentially are 1:1 until stable. The skills that our previous nurse techs have developed in this unit are head-to-toe assessment skills, quickly, airway management, wound care, education and discharging patients' home or to the floor. When the opportunity arises, we are happy to get our techs to other areas (OR, GI, Preop) for additional learning opportunities.
Pre-OP - The shifts start at 0530(South) 0500 ( North) and we are getting patients ready for surgery from home or from the floor. The skills that our previous nurse techs have developed in this unit are IV starts, assessment, education about planned procedure/anesthesia and working well with other departments (OR, PACU, GI). The unit is fast paced until it isn't, and then we are happy to assist the tech with getting experience in other areas (OR, GI, Preop) for additional learning opportunities.

- Complete Lab Draws
- Set Up and Restock Unit According to Surgery Type Needs
- Log Patient Belongings
- Learn Preoperative Assessment Skills and Assist with Assessment Charting
- Learn/Use all Unit Appropriate Equipment
- Indwelling Catheter/Toiletry Tasks
- Gain Understanding of Consent and Legality Process Surrounding Surgery

You will have shadow opportunities for the OR at both campuses.
Department hours – no weekend or holidays
North
Pre- Op - 5:30am – 9:30pm
PACU - 8:00am – 9:30pm
South
Pre-Op – 5:30am – 6:30pm
PACU – 5:30am – 6:30pm
