About This Position

Description:

Definition: The Admissions Clerk is responsible for facilitating the admission process of patients to the hospital or clinic. This role serves as the initial point of contact for patients and visitors, gather necessary information, verify insurance coverage, and ensure all documentation is completed accurately and efficiently.

Distinguishing Characteristics: This is an entry-level position. Admissions Clerks report to the Revenue Recycle Manager and have no direct reports.

Essential Functions: (These functions are fundamental to the position; duties and may vary as assigned).

1. Greeting patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.

2. Efficiently and warmly handles patient check ins and check outs.

3. Collects, verifies, and accurately enters patient information, including demographics, medical history, and insurance information.

4. Ensure all required consent forms and documents are completed accurately.

5. Coordinates with clinical staff and other departments to schedule patient admissions.

6. Verifies insurance eligibility and obtain pre-authorization as needed.

7. Maintains electronic and paper records in compliance with facility, state, and federal regulation.

8. Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and directs calls to appropriate staff & departments.

9. Assists with administrative tasks of the Business Office or Clinic, including filing, faxing, and data entry.

10. Accepts payments and refer questions regarding billing to the Business Office.

11. Prepares daily cash reconciliation for monies collected as applicable.

12. Participates in department and hospital wide quality assurance and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

Qualifications for Employment:

Qualifications include the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform a job, typically demonstrated through education, training, or experience.

Knowledge of:

o Insurance verification and authorization processes.

o Interpersonal and communication skills.

o Basic medical terminology and computer systems.

o HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.

Skill to:

o Adapt to changing policies and procedures in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

o Accurately and efficiently entering patient data into electronic health records.

Ability to:

o Work collaboratively with colleagues, patients, and visitors from diverse backgrounds.

o Organize workload and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment

o Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

o Provide excellent customer service with patient-centered approach

Required Certifications and Licenses:

None required

Experience and Training:

Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is:

o High school diploma.

o One (1) year of admission or healthcare front office experience preferred but not required.
