Position Summary
Key Responsibilities
A confidential, Texas-based commercial property management group provides a full range of property management and accounting services to improve the performance and efficiency of investment real estate assets. The organization supports ownership and investor objectives through disciplined financial reporting, operational excellence, and strong internal partnerships.
Position Summary
The group is seeking an experienced Sr. Property Accountant with a proven background supporting commercial real estate portfolios and/or REITs. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and initiative in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned commercial real estate properties
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and produce monthly financial statements with supplemental reporting as required
- Utilize budgets and analytical tools to analyze variances and reconcile payments against major contract values
- Ensure all required taxes and assessments are reconciled and remitted
- Monitor cash positions and anticipate future cash needs
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, including follow-up on outstanding items
- Review monthly receivables for accuracy and process adjustments or corrections as needed
- Prepare tenant analyses and statements of account
- Review accounts payable coding for accuracy and compliance
- Calculate and analyze year-end operating expense (CAM) reconciliations and tenant billings
- Review credit memos and cash receipt activity for accuracy
- Prepare non-recurring tenant billings, including utility sub-metering, for review and approval
- Prepare monthly accruals for property manager review and approval
- Support property managers with monthly reporting, including revenue variance explanations and package review prior to submission
- Monitor security deposits and letters of credit; assess tiered refunds with property manager oversight
- Maintain lease data and administer lease abstraction within MRI Real Estate Software
- Calculate and post percentage rent, as applicable
- Consolidate monthly ownership reporting packages
- Partner with internal teams including Property Management and Engineering
- Develop and review property reports, documentation, presentations, and written correspondence
- Ensure all financial reporting complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Perform financial analysis, modeling, and budgeting activities
- Book, reconcile, and maintain the general ledger as appropriate
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution (CPA preferred but not required)
- 5–7+ years of experience in commercial real estate or REIT accounting
- Advanced proficiency with MRI Real Estate Software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong discretion and judgment in handling confidential information
- Polished, professional written and verbal communication skills
- Highly independent, adaptable, and comfortable in a dynamic, less-structured environment
