Overview:

The Senior Backup Engineer is responsible for managing backup support to protect all U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) data across all hosts in all environments, provide continuous improvement of the backup services across all environments, and submitting reports and information required.

Responsibilities:

· Provide input to the service owner per the ITIL continuous improvement methodology

· Schedule daily backups

· Review the backup logs to ensure the backup application is running properly and no problems exist

· Ensure backup systems have adequate space to keep performing backups

· Ensure virtual backup libraries have an adequate number of virtual tapes available to perform the next night's backup tasks

· Oversee hardware maintenance of backup infrastructure

· Apply patches to backup applications

· Work with application owners to add, change, and remove client backups

· Provide recommendations to help increase the overall data protection within the environment

· Provide recommendations for Cloud backups in various environments.

Qualifications:

Required:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a similar Information Technology Field.

· A minimum of 10 years’ experience in backup administration support for large-scale environments, specifically including:

· 10 years’ experience installing and configuring backups

· Working knowledge of advanced backup tools

· 10 years’ experience writing scripts with a scripting language

· Familiarity with DevOps and ITIL processes

· Familiarity with on-premise or Cloud to Cloud backup migrations

· Working knowledge of database backup and restore on NetBackup, Backup Exec, and VEEAM

· Secret Clearance
