Job Description

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, and according to standard procedure, provides clinical pharmacy services to patients and medical staff. Documents and maintains all records according to state and federal law.

Job Duties:

  • Be able to perform the role of a staff pharmacist as described in the staff pharmacist job description.
  • Work assigned clinical areas providing medication expertise to the medical staff/nursing and patient care.
  • Proficient clinical services provided by the pharmacy department:
  • Pharmacokinetic dosing
  • TPN protocol
  • Renal dosing
  • Patient educations
  • Provide clinical services training of protocols to staff pharmacists.
  • Review medication orders for allergies, drug interactions, overdosage, duplication and therapeutic parameters using professional knowledge and expertise to facilitate decisions.
  • Provide drug information to allied health professionals when requested including special literature searches.
  • Provide drug information to patients through pharmacy education consults.
  • Prepares and presents in-service programs within the hospital and provides expertise to community outreach programs.
  • Participates in department’s Quality Assurance program when assigned.
  • Provide proactive medication therapy recommendations to providers.

  • Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy who has completed a pharmacy residency or equivalent experience. Active License through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Training and Experience: Previous hospital and residency experience desired.
  • Job Knowledge: General knowledge of state and federal drug laws as regulated by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Essentials:

  • Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.
  • Physical Demands: Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist with lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., picking up boxes, filling machines, refilling supplies. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required.
