We are seeking an Accounting Manager to support and supervise day-to-day accounting operations for our growing landscape and construction services company. This role reports directly to the Financial Controller and focuses on hands-on management of the accounting team and daily financial activities.

This position is ideal for a working manager who enjoys leading a team while staying closely involved in accounting operations. You must have advanced accounting knowledge, who understands GAAP fundamentals and is able to support full accounting cycle.

Requirements:

Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Assist with month-end close, review, and analyze the general ledger, and prepare monthly financials and job cost reports.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure accurate amortized, & allocation of expenses.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance.
  • Oversee accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and margin analysis.

Billing & Cost Control:

  • Review the billing process, including progress billing, time & materials (T&M) billing, and retention tracking in accordance with construction contracts.
  • Help support and assist field operations with job costing.
  • Work with the A/P Mgr. & team to ensure maximum vendor discounts are received.
  • Assist in monitoring activity and monthly reconciliation of credit card accounts.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Help manage an accounting staff of 6+ responsible for financial reports, billing, and collections.
  • Drive for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all financial activities.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives within the accounting department.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 6+ years of related accounting experience, with significant experience in construction service accounting.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, advanced formula)
  • Knowledge or experience in NetSuite.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting principles and practices.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Assist the WIP schedules with support from the Controller.
  • Strong understanding of prevailing wage laws and certified payroll reporting.
  • Oversee daily accounting workflows for AP, AR, GL, job cost, and reconciliations.
  • High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Responsibilities focus on operational accounting and staff supervision.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing periodically throughout the day in an office environment.
  • Sitting and standing as needed.
  • Walking as needed in order to meet with clients at various location.
  • Repetitive motion, Keyboard data entry, telephone use.
  • Visually able to read, view computer monitors with or without corrective devices.
  • Auditory, able to hear and speak on the phone as required to meet job expectations.
