About This Position

Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs offer professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities for interns. We are excited to offer opportunities in both Orange and Durham Counties. The Family Engagement Specialist Intern will support the Family and Community Engagement (FCE) team in building positive, goal-oriented relationships with families enrolled in our Head Start/Early Head Start programs. This role offers meaningful, hands-on experience working with families, staff, and community partners to promote family well-being, strengthen parent-child relationships, and encourage family participation. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: •Assisting the Family Engagement Specialist in coordinating family engagement activities and events. •Supporting families in accessing community resources and services. •Helping maintain accurate family records and documentation in compliance with Head Start performance standards. •Participating in home visits, parent meetings, and conferences as appropriate. •Assisting with developing and distributing family newsletters, flyers, and communication materials. •Supporting data collection for family needs assessments and program evaluation. •Attending training and staff meetings as required. •Performing other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) •Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Social Work, Human Services, Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, or a related field. •Strong interpersonal and communication skills. •Ability to work respectfully and effectively with diverse families. •Interest in community engagement, family services, and early childhood development. •Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, and databases). •Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow program policies and procedures. FES Intern will receive: • Weekly supervision from Family Engagement Manager • Gain practical experience working directly with families and community partners. • Receive professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. • Professional development coaching in alignment with social work practice standards • Opportunities for reflection and integration with academic field education requirements (if applicable) Internship Details: • This is an unpaid internship. • Part-time, flexible schedule based on program needs and intern availability. • Primarily located at our Durham or Orange County program sites. Some local travel may be required.
