Job Description

Position Summary

The position is oversight and management of activities required for compliance with state and federal rules and regulations affecting the NJH business. Under the direction of the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), the Compliance Officer will work collaboratively with NJH staff to monitor and report on compliance-related data and issues, and implement new regulations or guidance through policy development and coordination of actionable processes.


Essential Duties

  • Responsible for incident investigation and management. Investigates compliance incident and reported events; develops recommendations regarding incidents and events. Conducts assessments of potential or actual privacy incidents on behalf of the Compliance Program.
  • In collaboration with the CCO, conducts periodic risk assessments, prepare and summarize interview notes, document the investigation and assessment, and summarize the outcome for each assigned event in coordination with the entity’s other compliance and operational assessment functions.
  • Participates in investigations, mitigation, sanctions and other corrective action with appropriate workforce members including Human Resources, management and Information Systems and Technology.
  • Investigates issues, evaluate practices versus current policies and laws, and recommends solutions to reduce risks.
  • Coordinates with external agencies such as the Office of Civil Rights, other legal entities, organization officers, and internal departments on documentation requests and submissions, preparing for onsite audit visits and corrective action plan responses.
  • Responsible for privacy surveillance of electronic medical record systems using programs and software. Ensures privacy monitoring is performed effectively and timely; follows established procedures in accordance with data security standards; utilizes various systems to perform routine and complaint driven privacy surveillance; updates and maintains privacy files and spreadsheets
  • Manages program for the oversight of third party risk management including but not limited to business associate agreements to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed.
  • Manages breach notifications within regulatory time frames when required.
  • Assists with policy development and revisions. Recommends applicable updates.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state compliance laws and accreditation standards, and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
  • Assists in the development, monitoring and implementation of the NJH Compliance Program. Key contributor to the achievement of the Compliance Department goals and objectives, ensuring the effective day-to-day operation of the Compliance Program.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s required. Master’s preferred.
  • Work Experience: 5 years of experience in compliance, privacy, audit, health information management, legal support or senior/executive administrative support, privacy, audit and/or investigative capacity in a healthcare setting required.
  • Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Certification in Health Care Privacy Compliance preferred (HCCA or IAPP).
  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000
