Since 1982, over 160,000 youth have been helped with Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) programs. Y.O.U. helps teens and young adults, ages 14-24 living in economically distressed communities succeed by providing educational and workforce opportunities, skills development, and access to career pathways. Job Purpose

The Intake Specialist will work directly with the families of program applicants to determine official funding eligibility for participation in the Y.O.U. Summer Youth Employment Program and follow up with them as necessary to obtain any documents needed to complete an intake file. The Intake Specialist will need to offer the highest level of customer service while at the same time maintaining the highest level of attention to detail regarding documentation of participant eligibility in line with available funding sources. The person in this role must be able to travel throughout the community where Intake Appointments are hosted. Other duties will be assigned based upon program requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Host daily intake appointments for applicant/families to assist with the completion of application paperwork and the collection of required documentation to verify eligibility.
  • Assist in the set-up and tear-down of daily Intake Appointments throughout the community.
  • Provide supportive and accurate communication to applicants/families related to eligibility status.
  • Create and maintain accurate program files; routinely assist with correcting and updating files based on second and/or third level review.
  • Assist applicants/families with all aspects of program enrollment including completion of application paperwork, and inform about work permit process, health exams, and employment forms as needed.
  • Enter accurate and complete information into database management systems.
  • Provide timely reports to program management and partners as directed and required.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.

Requirements:

Education

  • Associate degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Requirements

  • Must be able to accommodate a Tuesday through Saturday work schedule, including evenings.
  • Some experience working with inner city youth and young adults with diverse backgrounds.
  • Must have experience in customer service and strong data entry skills.
  • Must have experience with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Must have reliable transportation for travel to and from appointment locations.
  • Must pass a background BCI/FBI check as a condition of employment.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under minimal supervision.

Work Environment

  • This position is based primarily in-office. The position includes regular travel to offsite intake site locations and other Y.O.U. offices as part of assigned responsibilities.
  • The work pace for this position is usually fast paced where work is required for up to 2 hours at a time. This position requires such physical abilities as sitting for computer and phone work for long periods of time, lifting up to 25 lbs periodically and carrying office supplies, standing, and walking throughout the office buildings.
  • Social interaction with team members, vendors, partners, participants, and/or their family members frequently.
  • The environment in which the job is performed outside a normal office space may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, or other hazards.

Assignment Details:

  • Assignment Length: March 24th through May 16th
  • Schedule: T-W-TH | 9:30am-7pm; F-S | 9:30am-4:30pm (37.50 hours per week)
