Reports to: Shelter Shift Supervisor
Location: Bronx, NY
Status & Hours: This is a full-time shift position that may include weekends. Shift times are designated as Days (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM), Evenings (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM), and Overnights (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM). Schedule will be discussed upon hire. This position requires flexibility, including the ability to work weekends and adjust hours based on the operational needs of the site.

Where You Will Work: Hudson Bay is a brand-new, all-female shelter in the Bronx housing 200 women aged 55 and older.
About The Role: We are seeking diligent and responsible Residential Aides for all shifts at our new women's shelter in the Bronx, NY. The Residential Aides will provide direct services to the shelter clients and be the primary connection between Case Management/Housing staff and the client. Successful candidates will have prior experience providing compassionate care to vulnerable populations.
Essential Functions:

- Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for clients.
- Complete client intakes, including documentation, orientation, bed assignments, and laundering belongings as needed.
- Assist with planning and coordinating recreational activities, events, and outings.
- Monitor client and visitor activity, maintain daily logs, sign-ins, and required recordkeeping.
- Collaborate with Shift Supervisors and Security using Safe Crisis Management to respond to incidents and complete required documentation.
- Prepare electronic shift summaries, daily census reports, and curfew violation tracking.
- Support daily operations such as meal service, fire drills, inventory checks, and escorting clients to appointments when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma, HSE, or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a shelter, security, customer service, or healthcare setting preferred.
- Food Handler’s Certification required or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
- Strong crisis intervention, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to respond effectively to urgent situations.
- Basic computer proficiency and strong organizational abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work respectfully with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working in a homeless shelter and/or with mental illness preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Work Environment: This job operates in a shelter environment and works with a population who experiences mental illness, addiction, disability, HIV, and other chronic illnesses.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs and/ or kneel. Occasionally, the employee will have to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
