JOB DESCRIPTION
The OBR Cooling Towers Project Safety Manager (PSM) is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all safety measures throughout the pre-planning and active phases of construction projects.
Travel is required, with potential for extensive time on job sites depending on project locations.
- Serve as the primary on-site safety lead while partnering with local management and EHS staff to implement, manage, and continuously improve safety programs and initiatives in alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate new hire safety orientations and ongoing refresher training for existing employees, evaluating and updating training materials as needed.
- Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and employees on safety policies, procedures, and behaviors.
- Mentors & provides leadership for site safety specialists
- Mentor frontline leaders to motivate and inspire team members to prioritize safety, take ownership of their work environment, and model safe behaviors.
- Develop, implement, and enforce safe work processes (JSAs, THAs, Safe Work Procedures) in compliance with OBR and customer EHS standards.
- Prepare and maintain safety documentation, site-specific safety plans, and audit/inspection reports.
- Monitor organizational EHS policies to ensure they are meeting the needs of the project and recommend changes/updates accordingly.
- Perform and support routine safety inspections and audits across the project site.
- Ensure that identified hazards and that corrective actions are implemented and follow up on for effectiveness.
- Promote employee engagement by encouraging participation in safety observations, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track and analyze leading and lagging safety performance indicators and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Act as a liaison between the site, regulatory agencies, and corporate safety leadership on audits, inspections, claims, and compliance matters.
- Lead and/or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis, documentation, and follow-up on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain and manage EHS documentation, including inspection records, training logs, incident reports, and safety meeting notes.
- Deliver weekly/monthly safety reports and continuously improve project safety culture
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· High school diploma, or equivalent.
· Associate’s degree in occupational health and safety, Management, and/or a minimum of 7 years of experience in a health and safety role.
· Knowledge of Windows-based applications; must possess good written and communication skills
PREREQUISITES & REQUIREMENTS
- Negative 10 panel urinalysis and breath alcohol test.
- Valid Driver's License and proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Satisfactory background check.
- Ability to maintain active status in DISA with a score of 2 or less.
- OSHA 30 Hour for Construction.
- Train the Trainer certified in MEWP & Rough Terrain Forklift.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
- Professional safety certification (e.g., CSHO, CHST, ASP, CSP) or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software platforms.
- Ability to adapt quickly, prioritize effectively, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
