About This Position
The Grain Procurement Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring reliable grain supply, accurate contract execution, and smooth multifacility operations. This position supports grain procurement activities for multiple locations, manages inbound logistics, and collaborates closely with plant operations, accounting, and merchandising teams. Key Responsibilities
Multi-Facility Grain Execution
- Support grain procurement and execution activities for multiple facilities, including Fargo and Lubbock.
- Coordinate daily and weekly inbound grain logistics, including:
- Scheduling trucks and managing delivery timing
- Monitoring freight availability and market rates
- Ensuring deliveries align with plant demand and storage capacity
- Review bin charts and inventory levels daily to manage inbound flow and coverage.
- Track open contracts versus delivered volumes and proactively escalate risks or discrepancies.
Contract Administration & Position Tracking
- Enter, maintain, and reconcile grain purchase contracts across multiple facilities.
- Monitor contract performance, delivery pace, and outstanding obligations.
- Partner with accounting and procurement teams to resolve contract or settlement discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of inventory positions, coverage, and movement.
Plant & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as a daily point of coordination between grain procurement, plant operations, logistics, accounting, and quality teams.
- Communicate plant shutdowns, slowdowns, or special operational needs that impact grain flow.
- Assist in managing quality specifications, including grade, moisture, and condition issues.
Market & Merchandising Development
- Build foundational knowledge of futures, basis, cash markets, and regional supply dynamics.
- Participate in conversations with farmers, suppliers, and internal teams to understand market conditions.
- Assist with reporting related to inventory, coverage, freight economics, and market risk.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement and execution processes.

- Grain flows smoothly across both facilities with minimal disruption.
- Inventory, contract, and position records are accurate, timely, and reliable.
- Logistics issues are identified early and communicated clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong working relationships are built with plant teams, procurement, logistics, and accounting.
- Growing confidence and capability in market understanding and decision-making.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture, Supply Chain, Economics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Interest in agricultural markets, grain procurement, and logistics
- Ability to work across time zones and support multiple locations
