Staff Nurse

  • Position Summary
    • The Outpatient Oncology Infusion Staff Nurse is responsible for the safe, evidenced-based administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, blood products, and supportive care treatments in an ambulatory oncology setting. This role delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care to oncology and hematology patients throughout the treatment continuum while ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards. The Infusion RN functions as a clinical expert in oncology nursing practice, providing skilled assessment, symptom management, patient education, and coordination of care in collaboration with oncologists, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members. The nurse promotes quality outcomes, patient safety, and operational efficiency within a high-volume infusion environment.

    • Associate's Degree in Nursing - Required
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing - Preferred
  • Experience
    • 1-2 Years Nursing - Required
  • License & Certification
    • Registered Nurse License with State of Practice – Required
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
    • Oncology Nurse Certification - Preferred
  • Core Job Functions
    • Clinical Care & Treatment Administration: Perform comprehensive pre-treatment assessments, including review of labs, treatment parameters, and toxicity evaluation. Complete ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification to safely administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents, blood products, and supportive medications per established protocols. Maintain strict adherence to ONS chemotherapy administration standards and institutional policies. Manage central venous access devices. Recognize and respond appropriately to infusion reactions and oncolytic emergencies.
    • Patient Education & Support: Provide individualized education regarding treatment plans, side effect management, and symptom reporting. Support patients and families through complex cancer care journeys with empathy and professionalism.
    • Care Coordination: Collaborate with providers, pharmacy, financial counselors, navigation, and ancillary services. Ensure timely communication of abnormal findings and treatment delays. Assist in triage and symptom management as needed.
    • Quality & Safety: Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and compliance audits. Support adherence accreditation standards (e.g. ONS, USP<979>/<800>, state and federal regulations). Promote a culture of safety within the infusion suite.
