This role sits within a fast-moving, zero-to-one product team building a next-generation AI-native Digital Asset Management (DAM) system as part of a broader enterprise platform. You will help design and scale the backend foundations that power how organizations store, govern, and reuse critical digital assets such as images, video, and documents. Operating in a remote-first and highly collaborative environment, you will work at the intersection of backend engineering, AI/ML integration, and product innovation. Your work will directly shape system reliability, scalability, and performance for rapidly growing enterprise customers. This is a high-impact engineering role where craftsmanship, speed, and architectural thinking are essential. You will contribute to defining early-stage system design decisions while building production-grade services used at scale.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIs that power an AI-native digital asset management platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems that support evolving product and customer needs.
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and modern backend technologies
- Build scalable, secure, and high-performance systems supporting large volumes of digital assets and metadata
- Partner with AI/ML engineers and data scientists to integrate machine learning capabilities into production systems
- Develop robust data models, storage solutions, and retrieval systems ensuring reliability and data integrity
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to define and optimize API contracts and product functionality
- Participate in system architecture decisions, balancing scalability, maintainability, and speed of delivery
- Improve system observability, reliability, testing coverage, and production performance
- Contribute to the full software lifecycle, from design through deployment and ongoing optimization
- Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices and code quality standards
This position requires strong backend engineering expertise, with a focus on building scalable distributed systems and production-grade APIs. You should be comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and contributing to early-stage product development.
- 3–5+ years of experience in backend engineering, building and shipping production systems
- Strong proficiency in Python or similar backend programming languages
- Experience designing APIs, backend services, and data models with scalability in mind
- Solid understanding of databases, distributed systems, and asynchronous architectures
- Familiarity with system design principles, performance optimization, and reliability engineering
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with product, design, and data/ML partners
- Strong debugging, testing, and observability practices in production environments
- Ability to independently drive complex technical projects from concept to delivery
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in distributed engineering teams
- Curiosity for emerging technologies, including AI-driven development tools
