OVERVIEW:
The Product Development Intern will join Construction Innovations for a 3-month internship duration. The Intern supports the New Product Development (NPD) team with day-to-day coordination, documentation, and prototype-related tasks. This role is designed for a student interested in product development and seeking hands-on experience in prototyping, testing, and cross-functional collaboration. The intern will assist with ongoing projects while learning how products move from concept through testing and implementation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with organizing and updating prototype task lists and documentation
- Help track prototype schedules, deliverables, and basic project updates
- Support coordination between internal teams and external vendors
- Maintain and organize product development documentation and files
- Assist with prototype builds and basic testing activities (as applicable)
- Help prepare status updates, summaries, and reports for the team
- Participate in team meetings and take notes/action items
- Perform other duties as assigned
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Product Design, or a related field
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Interest in product development, manufacturing, energy, construction, or innovation for the aforementioned
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay organized
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasionally required to sit for long and short periods.
- Regularly required to talk to communicate detailed, important, and accurate instructions to internal and external customers.
- Regularly required to walk for long and short distances.
- Frequently required to stand for long and short periods.
- Occasionally required to bend or twist at the neck and torso.
- Occasionally required to crouch, squat, stoop, and kneel.
- Occasionally required to reach forward, grab, grasp, pinch, and handle material and tools using upper extremities.
- Required to have visual acuity with or without correction to inspect products before and after installation.
- Constantly required to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to hear detailed information and distinguish sounds to avoid hazards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role is primarily office-based with occasional exposure to manufacturing or prototype environments. Interns may observe or assist in hands-on activities in shop or site settings under supervision.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports to the Director of New Product Development

LOCATION:
Construction Innovations facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA and Mather, CA.
COMPENSATION:
A reasonable estimate of the current hourly rate for this position is $24.00 - $27.00 per hour. The hourly rate is determined by the college year that the intern will be entering during the 2026-2027 academic year.
Going into 2nd (Sophomore) year - $24/hr
Going into 3rd (Junior) year - $25/hr
Going into 4th (Senior) year - $26/hr
Graduated Senior - $27/hr
