Senior Project Architect

POSITION SUMMARY
We are hiring founding team members. This is a unique opportunity to join a new architecture practice launching
under an established developer with a built-in project pipeline from day one. Elmington is a Nashville based company providing comprehensive residential and commercial services through a collaborative, partnership driven approach. The firm specializes in affordable and multifamily housing, with over 35 projects completed nationwide.
In this role, the Senior Project Architect provides strategic leadership for complex architectural projects from concept through construction, ensuring design excellence, technical rigor, and successful project delivery. This role leads client relationships, directs internal project teams, and coordinates consultants while maintaining control of scope, schedule, and budget.
Working closely with Principals and Project Architects, the Senior Project Architect guides project planning, staffing, and execution; oversees regulatory and code compliance; and supports high quality documentation and construction administration. The position plays a key role in mentoring staff, strengthening client partnerships, and contributing to the firm's operational and design leadership.

SPECIFIC EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in architecture firm with a strong focus on multi-family residential projects
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in a leadership role within a design firm
  • 5+ years of experience with Multifamily scope of projects
  • Licensed Architect with an active license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Experience with multifamily architectural design through all design phases with an understanding and knowledge of the materials and detailing typically associated with Type I, Type III, and Type V multifamily residential and mixed-use construction
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven experience managing complex projects through all phases, from concept design through construction administration
  • Strong track record of client and consultant leadership, including coordination of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Thorough understanding of building codes, zoning, and permitting processes, including work across multiple jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedules, and budgets while maintaining design quality.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills with experience mentoring and guiding junior staff
  • Proficient in AutoCad, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Procore, and related Architectural tools
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Lead and manage complex projects through all phases, from concept design through construction administration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, developers, and consultants, fostering strong, long-term relationships
  • Direct and coordinate internal project teams, including Project Architects and designers, to ensure efficient workflow and accountability
  • Oversee project scope, schedules, budgets, and staffing to ensure successful and profitable project delivery
  • Guide consultant coordination across all disciplines, ensuring alignment with project goals and design intent
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, zoning ordinances, and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions
  • Review and guide design development and construction documentation for quality, accuracy, and constructability
  • Lead and participate in key client meetings, presentations, and agency coordination efforts
  • Support construction administration efforts, including responding to RFI's, submittals, and filed issues as needed
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the firm's standards, best practices, and overall operational excellence

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This role includes monthly travel to the corporate office and additional travel as needed to support project alignment and timelines.
