Job Summary:
This position is responsible for working with the Program Director of Youth and Family Services, Coordinator of Adult Community Outreach and Education, Director of Development and Communications and VP of Programs and Quality to promote awareness about mental health and the youth and family programs and services of MHA Rochester. This position will provide community-based prevention education, groups and engagement with community. This position is responsible for building connections internally and externally on behalf of the agency.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)
Prevention Education and Workshops
- Provides evidence-based prevention workshops, groups and presentations related to children, youth and family-based mental health support. Topics may include suicide prevention, individual and family coping skills, empowerment and self-advocacy, benefits of peer support, managing emotional crisis, promoting mental wellbeing and utilizing community resources (including alternative crisis programs).
- Works with community partner agencies to promote events using flyers, advertisements, and digital marketing outreach.
- Maintains a shared outreach calendar and contributes to internal reporting on engagement metrics and impact (i.e. types of outreach conducted, individuals impacted, etc.).
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Provides outreach in the community to increase awareness about mental health, programs/services of the agency and other community resources.
- Serves as a point of contact for the community to connect families to health, education, human service and disability information.
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with local organizations, schools, and businesses to increase visibility and access to MHA’s programs and services and extend MHA’s reach and impact.
- Collaborates with the Communications team to ensure that outreach messaging is inclusive, consistent, and aligned with MHA’s voice and values. Adheres to the agency logo and branding guidelines.
- Coordinates the supply of MHA and other educational materials to distribute at community events.
- Serves as MHA Rochester’s lead representative for responding to and coordinating requests for youth and family tabling events, health fairs, and community outreach opportunities throughout Monroe County.
- Assists the Director of Development and Communications with promoting community awareness to the public and serves as a resource for media requests.
- Identifies and pursues new outreach opportunities aligned with MHA’s mission and strategic priorities.
Other
- Attend meetings as assigned.
- Schedules for meetings and appointments (both in person and virtually) as needed. Ensure all attendees have communication regarding meeting location, etc.
- Assists with the submission of grant/foundation applications as appropriate.
- Supports fundraising events in coordination with the Development team by assisting with outreach, event promotion, and on-the-ground execution.

Requirements:Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years of experience working in children/youth/family prevention and/or mental health.
- Personal relevant experience preferred.
- YPA or FPA credential preferred.
Equipment, Machines and Software Used:
- Ability to operate various office equipment including computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, scanner, and calculator.
- Computer Software: Microsoft Office to include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with Donor Development, GrantHub, and Grant Watch software preferred.
- NYS motor vehicle license, safe driving record and availability of personal vehicle for work is required.

- Individuals must demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and competency with diverse cultural backgrounds, social identities and practices of community members and be willing to participate in anti-racism focused diversity training to increase skills in this area.
- Personal lived experience with mental health is preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to exert up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
- Finger dexterity required to operate telephone and computer keyboard.
- Hearing at a level to enable one to hear normal conversation.
- Visual requirements of having the ability to read documents, the computer screen, etc.
Environmental Conditions:
- Work is performed onsite or within the Monroe County community.
- When work is performed in a typical office environment, there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. When work is performed in the community, there may be minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Work Hours:
- The standard work week is 35 hours, Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Flexibility with occasional weekend and evening hours will be required.
Compensation:
- Compensation will be in the range of $25-28/hr.
