Position Overview:
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for strategically managing the procurement and inventory management process to ensure efficient product availability, cost optimization, and high levels of customer satisfaction. This role leads a team of Buyers and collaborates cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Distribution Centers, and suppliers to drive performance, improve supply chain processes, and support business objectives.
The Supply Chain Manager will monitor inventory trends, supplier performance, and procurement strategies while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service levels across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Procurement Strategy
- Lead and manage a team of Buyers responsible for procurement and inventory management activities.
- Provide performance management, coaching, professional development, and strategic direction to team members.
- Establish and deliver training programs to support continued development of the buying team.
- Drive procurement strategies aligned with company goals and customer service objectives.
Inventory Management & Operational Performance
- Monitor key metrics such as fill rates, aged inventory, GMROI, and ROA to ensure optimal inventory performance.
- Analyze inventory trends and guide Buyers in identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service levels.
- Collaborate with internal teams to manage slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
- Gather and analyze sales forecasts to support effective procurement planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a key liaison between procurement, sales, customer service, and distribution center teams.
- Resolve internal process issues related to procurement and inventory management.
- Partner with transportation and logistics teams to identify cost-effective freight and stocking strategies.
- Collaborate with Information Systems and Operations teams to implement system enhancements that support procurement processes.
Supplier Management
- Lead supplier performance monitoring, evaluations, and improvement initiatives.
- Identify and resolve supplier performance or service level issues.
- Maintain supplier data integrity and pricing information within internal systems.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and technical resources to support product knowledge and operational improvements.
Regional Leadership
- Serve as the procurement leader for an assigned geographic region.
- Participate in Sales and Operations planning discussions to provide supply chain insights and recommendations.
- Visit key Distribution Centers periodically to strengthen collaboration and support operational initiatives.
Leadership & Communication:
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment on procurement strategies and initiatives.
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering service excellence.
Expected Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, or supply chain management within a sales or distribution environment.
- 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing procurement or supply chain teams.
- Familiarity with procurement or MRP systems (experience with MXP or similar systems preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business tools.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles including inventory planning, procurement, and supplier management.
- Experience analyzing inventory and procurement data to drive operational improvements.
- Ability to manage supplier relationships and negotiate effectively with vendors.
- Experience working within distribution, logistics, or warehouse environments.
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting supply chain metrics and financial data.
Work Schedule / Location:
- This is a remote position, with a strong preference for candidates located near one of the distribution center locations listed in this job posting. The standard schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, with flexibility and availability to collaborate with team members across Central and Pacific time zones.
Travel:
- Regular travel is expected, averaging one to two trips per month to distribution centers as needed. Occasional international travel may also be required.
Pre-Employment Requirement:
Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background check. This requirement is especially critical for safety-sensitive roles.
For candidates located in the Schaumburg, IL area, the expected annual base salary range for this position is $125,000 – $140,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant experience, skills, education, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for discretionary bonus opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package.
