Position Overview

The Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of a ready-mix concrete plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate production and delivery of concrete. This role manages batching operations, equipment performance, inventory levels, and quality standards while coordinating closely with dispatch, drivers, and maintenance teams to meet customer demand. The position requires strong attention to detail, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced production environment.

What You'll Do

  • Operate and monitor batching systems to produce concrete that meets mix design specifications.
  • Coordinate with dispatch to schedule loads and ensure timely delivery of concrete products.
  • Perform routine plant inspections and basic maintenance on batching equipment, conveyors, and mixers.
  • Troubleshoot operational or mechanical issues and coordinate repairs when needed.
  • Maintain accurate production records, batch tickets, and inventory logs.
  • Monitor raw material levels and coordinate deliveries of cement, aggregates, and admixtures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, environmental regulations, and company procedures.
  • Conduct quality control testing such as slump, air, and temperature checks as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe plant and yard environment at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and team members to quickly resolve issues.
  • Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company safety policies, rules and procedures as well as OSHA regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow mix designs and production schedules.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting capability.
  • Ability to operate computerized batching systems and plant controls.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in ready-mix concrete, construction materials, or plant operations preferred.
  • Experience operating batching or similar industrial control systems is a plus.

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on location.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks in an industrial environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs or ladders for extended periods.
  • Comfortable wearing required PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
