Crouse Health is hiring an HIM Assistant II.

Schedule: Full Time, Tuesday-Saturday, 7:30am - 4:00pm, additional coverage as needed

Pay Range: $19.50 - $30.93 / hour

HIM Assistant II Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviews 97% of images scanned within 24 hours. Identifies at least 98% of documents that are of poor quality. Marks for re-scanning 99% of those documents identified.
  • Ensures that al scanned documents are positioned correctly. Identifies at least 98% of those that are incorrect and fixes 99% of those identified.
  • Indexes documents to correct encounter and document type at least 99% of the time. Each document is indexed to the correct patient/encounter and each document is assigned the correct document name. Verifies that bar-coded documents are correctly indexed.
  • Ensures that al scanned documents are positioned correctly. Identifies at least 98% of those that are incorrect and fixes 99% of those identified.
  • Indexes documents to correct encounter and document type at least 99% of the time. Each document is indexed to the correct patient/encounter and each document is assigned the correct document name. Verifies that bar-coded documents are correctly indexed.
  • Identifies when it is appropriate to split and merge documents at least 99% of the time. Splits and merges documents correctly 99% of the time
  • Correctly inserts pages/documents when and where appropriate at least 98% of the time. Correctly appends pages/documents when and where appropriate at least 98% of the time, writes each indexed batch to the appropriate queue according to workflow procedure, reviews assigned work queue(s) daily and ensures timely processing of al assignments in the queues.
  • Selects appropriate work assignments for analysis from the work queues. Reviews each record for missing documents, missing signatures or missing text according to procedure. Correctly identifies missing elements at least 98% of the time. Assigns deficiencies to physician(s) according to procedure with at least 98% accuracy.
  • Links signature deficiencies for COLD fed documents to correct physician, if applicable, at least 98% of the time (if applicable). Correctly identifies when dictation has not been done and assigns to the correct physician at least 98% of the time. Maintains analysis turnaround within required time frame at least 98% of the time.
  • Generates physician notification letters according to specified policy. Maintains (creates/modifies) physician letter database. Whenever possible, answers any questions the physicians may have about their deficiencies and how to access assignments/complete deficiencies on EPF or directs to appropriate person for clarification.
  • Monitors reanalysis queue (physician decline queue) daily and reassigns deficiencies when appropriate. Verifies physician dictation on the dictation system if physician indicates delinquent records have been dictated and dictated report is not in EPF.
  • Interacts with the medical staff including assisting physicians with medical record completion process as appropriate.
  • Consistently maintains the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties related to Health Information Management as requested.
  • Meets the needs of cultural differences when dealing with the outside public, medical staff and customers.
  • Assists in the training of new employees and the cross training of current employees.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.

HIM Assistant II Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two or more years of experience in a healthcare Health Information Management setting or graduate from an accredited Health Information Management degree program with eligibility to possess RHIT/RHIA certification.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (testing administered by HR with a passing score of 75% or better) required.
  • Must be able to perform effectively under fluctuating workload.
