Reports To: General Manager

Position Summary

The Night Manager oversees and physically assists in all hotel operations during the evening and overnight shift, serving as the Manager on Duty, as primary point of contact for guests and team members for assigned hotel/s. Although this role has no direct subordinates, it carries full responsibility for monitoring all departments, ensuring safety, resolving issues, and maintaining brand standards throughout the night. The Night Manager ensures a smooth transition between daytime and overnight operations while safeguarding the property, supporting evening and overnight staff, and delivering exceptional guest service. Partners with the Front Desk Manager and Assistant Manager to uphold effective operational practices and ensure staffing requirements are met during overnight hours.

This position is a working manager role that requires active participation in daily operations. The Night Manager must be willing to step in, assist, and physically support team members as needed, rather than remaining behind the desk or providing directions only. Supports cross-department operations (Front Desk, Housekeeping, Engineering, Food and Beverage) to maintain smooth late night and overnight flow.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Service & Front Office Operations

  • Serve as the highest-ranking leader on property during evening and overnight hours, handling all guest conCerns, scalations, relieving hourly employees for breaks and meals as needed, and handling special requests with professionalism and urgency.
  • Oversee check-ins, check-outs, room moves, billing inquiries, reservation adjustments, or what else is needed operationally
  • Conduct nightly lobby and property walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, safety, and a welcoming environment
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and address service recovery opportunities immediately.

Safety, Security & Emergency Response

  • Perform routine property patrols to ensure guest and team member safety, secure entrances/exits, and identify potential hazards.
  • Respond to emergencies, alarms, medical incidents, and security concerns, coordinating with local authorities when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate incident reports and ensure proper documentation of all overnight events.

Operational Oversight

  • Support and monitor all overnight departments, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Laundry, Engineering, and Food & Beverage (if applicable).
  • Ensure overnight staff follow policies, procedures, and brand standards, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Verify completion of nightly tasks such as cleaning schedules, maintenance checks, and audit-related duties.
  • Communicate operational updates, guest issues, and follow-up items to department leaders and the morning management team.

Food and Beverage

· Supports restaurant, bar, pantry, and banquet teams with guidance, issue resolution, relieving hourly employees for breaks and meals as needed, and guest recovery.

· Conducts walkthroughs of dining areas, kitchens, and storage to ensure cleanliness, safety, and readiness.

· Assists with closing procedures, cash handling verification, and end-of-day reporting.

· Monitors staff workflow while exercising supervisory authority; escalates performance concerns to F&B leadership.

· Responds to guest complaints, special requests, and service recovery needs during shift in the absence of F&B leadership.

· Communicates nightly F&B updates, incidents, and follow-up items to department leadership.

Night Audit & Financial Accuracy

  • Assist the Night Auditor with balancing daily transactions, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Review daily revenue, occupancy, and rate reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with cash-handling procedures and audit controls.

Housekeeping

· Conducts evening and late-night property walkthroughs to ensure hallways, public areas, and service spaces remain clean, safe, and guest-ready.

· Responds to guest requests for towels, toiletries, pillows, blankets, and room supplies, ensuring timely delivery and professional service.

· Supports communication between Front Desk and Housekeeping regarding room status, late checkouts, early arrivals, and special requests.

· Provides after-hours support for Housekeeping emergencies, spills, or urgent guest-impacting situations.

· Communicates nightly Housekeeping updates, incidents, and follow-up items to department leadership.

Property Maintenance & Issue Resolution

  • Identify and address maintenance concerns, place work orders and coordinate with Engineering for urgent repairs.
  • Ensure all equipment, lighting, and safety systems are functioning properly during overnight hours.
  • Follow up on unresolved daytime issues to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Communicates nightly Maintenance updates, incidents, and follow-up items to department leadership.

Leadership & Communication

  • Act as the primary decision-maker during overnight hours, using sound judgment to resolve issues and protect the hotel’s interests.
  • Provide support, direction, and coaching to overnight staff without direct supervisory authority.
  • Prepare detailed shift reports summarizing incidents, guest interactions, operational concerns, and required follow-up for daytime leadership.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Previous hotel front office or operations experience required; supervisory or MOD experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of hotel systems, safety procedures, and brand standards.
