Job Summary:
Under the general guidance and supervision of the General Manager the Retail Store Supervisor plays a key role in shaping the guest shopping experience at the Maui Coast Hotel. This position is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing merchandise that reflects the spirit of Maui and aligns with guest preferences and seasonal trends.
The Retail Store Supervisor oversees daily retail store operations, ensuring exceptional service, efficient processes, and a visually engaging, well-merchandised shopping environment. This role works closely with hotel leadership, staff, and vendors to maintain optimal inventory levels, support team members, and uphold high standards of hospitality and profitability.
Ideal candidates bring a blend of creativity, commercial acumen, and strong leadership. From adding to the implementation of the POS system and managing inventory, you will curate merchandise selections, build vendor relationships, respond to guest inquiries, support sales team members, and ensure the retail space remains inviting, engaging, and guest-ready at all times. This is a hands-on role where you will actively participate in merchandising, purchasing, and front-of-house selling to enhance guest satisfaction and contribute to the overall success of the hotel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Buyer / Merchandiser – Responsibilities[SM1]
Purchasing & Procurement
- Create and issue purchase orders, review confirmations, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
- Analyze item movement and inventory trends to determine purchasing needs, focusing on critical and high-sensitivity items.
- Coordinate the procurement of materials, products, and services in alignment with program and operational requirements.
- Identify materials with long lead times and collaborate with program leads to plan accordingly.
- Select and evaluate suppliers from the approved vendor list, facilitating competitive bidding and awarding.
- Utilize systems to prepare, track, and manage purchase orders.
- Monitor supplier order status and backlog, adjusting schedules as needed to meet deadlines.
- Partner with logistics teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of incoming materials.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels daily and place replenishment orders to maintain optimal stock availability.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, receipts, and inventory levels.
- Collaborate with Operations to maximize inventory utilization, improve inventory turns, and reduce shrinkage.
- Ensure timely receipt and distribution of goods across operations, distribution, production, and field teams.
Merchandising & Store Support
- Oversee store merchandising standards, product presentation, and inventory readiness.
- Support store operations including staffing, customer service, and merchandising as needed.
- Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and general operational support during busy periods.
- Communicate guest or customer feedback, product issues, and operational concerns to management.
Team & Operational Leadership
- Lead and support team members to achieve sales goals and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements, and operational procedures.
- Monitor performance metrics and contribute to continuous improvement strategies.
- Collaborate with leadership on promotions, product launches, and community engagement initiatives.
- Utilize current and emerging technologies to enhance purchasing, inventory, and operational efficiency.
General

Retail Associate – Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
- Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting, acknowledging, and assisting guests promptly.
- Prioritize customer engagement over tasks, responding with urgency to all guest needs.
- Communicate product features, value, and quality while informing customers of current promotions.
- Offer alternatives and solutions for out-of-stock items to support sales and customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrate effective selling skills to positively impact conversion and overall store performance.
- Exercise sound judgment in addressing and resolving customer concerns.
- Provide fast, friendly, and accurate transaction processing.
Merchandising & Inventory
- Maintain appropriate stock levels on the sales floor, ensuring all sizes and styles are fully represented.
- Follow company standards for merchandise presentation, signage, and visual displays.
- Support stockroom organization and maintain a clean, customer-ready environment at all times.
- Assist with replenishment, restocking, and maintaining inventory accuracy as needed.
Store Operations & Safety
- Perform daily housekeeping duties to maintain a neat, clean, and inviting store.
- Follow all Loss Prevention procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Report maintenance, facility, or safety concerns promptly to store leadership.
- Contribute to the achievement of store goals through focus, teamwork, and reliable execution of tasks.
- Adhere to all company policies, operational standards, and safety requirements.
General

Overall Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Self-directed and highly organized, able to manage time effectively and complete purchasing and merchandising projects on schedule.
- Strong guest engagement abilities with effective conflict-resolution and sound decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong computer proficiency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and composed in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Demonstrated leadership presence with a service-oriented, guest-first mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Must obtain a State of Hawai‘i Liquor License/Card.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Hospitality, Supply Chain Management or related field preferred
- 2+ years of experience in hotel operations
- 2+ years of previous buying, merchandising or retail management preferred
- APICS, CPM, CPSM, CSCP certification or equivalent.
- Previous Retail Experience required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods
- Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing stairs or walking across property
Working Conditions:
- Must be flexible and able to work AM and PM shifts, including weekends and holidays based upon business needs
- On-site, high-traffic hotel environment
- Frequent interaction with guests and staff across all departments
- Required to be on-call or available to assist during peak periods or staffing shortages
