About This Position
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Evergreen School is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and proactive School Nurse to oversee the health and safety of our preschool through 8th-grade students. The School Nurse manages student health needs during the school day, including first aid, medication administration, care for chronic health conditions, and maintaining student health records in accordance with state and local requirements.
The School Nurse partners closely with families, teachers, and administrators to support student health at school, ensure compliance with immunization requirements, and respond to day-to-day and emergent health concerns. The nurse also helps promote a healthy school environment through communication, health guidance for school activities, and collaboration with staff to support student well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Student Health Care and Direct Support
- Provide care for acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and other health concerns during the school day.
- Assess, document, and complete student accident and injury reports in accordance with school policy and state requirements, and communicate clearly and promptly with families regarding injuries, illnesses, and follow-up care.
- Administer, document, and monitor daily and as-needed medications.
- Monitor and support students with chronic conditions, including but not limited to, diabetes, asthma, and allergies.
- Maintain accurate health records, including medication, health history information, and immunization records through the use of the WAIIS School Module for reporting compliance.
- Collaborate with families to ensure safe and effective management of student health concerns, including food allergies and dietary restrictions.
- Track and report communicable diseases and guide families on when students should remain home.
- Staying up to date with the health requirements for licensed programs.
- Prepare and organize student medications and health plans for field trips, athletics, and overnight camps.
- Serve as a member of student support teams, collaborating with counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify student needs and ensure appropriate health and wellness supports are in place.
- Health Education and Wellness Promotion
- Partner with teachers and administrators to support age-appropriate health education when relevant to student needs (e.g., handwashing practices in early grades, general wellness topics).
- Lead wellness initiatives, including vaccination clinics and health awareness campaigns.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on health-related procedures, including first aid, CPR, EpiPen use, and chronic condition management.
- Serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding health and safety practices that support student well-being in classrooms and common areas.
- Promote a healthy school environment through preventive care, education, and proactive interventions.
- Health Office and Administrative Management
- Maintain daily operations of the health office, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and professional environment.
- Order, stock, and maintain medical supplies and equipment.
- Document and report health office visits, injuries, illnesses, and medication administration accurately.
- Ensure accurate, timely completion and secure storage of accident, incident, and injury reports, and partner with school leadership as needed regarding follow-up or risk management.
- Ensure compliance with Washington state health laws, Washington Administrative Code (WAC) requirements, and school health policies; stay current on applicable regulations and collaborate with school leadership and external partners as needed to maintain compliance.
- Coordinate with school leadership on health initiatives, emergency preparedness, and wellness programs.
- Identify and oversee the training of specific nursing tasks for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP), such as medication administration, blood glucose monitoring, and emergency care.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student wellness.
- Provide individualized guidance and education for employees who work with students with specific health needs.
- Coordinate and facilitate on-campus health and wellness training sessions for staff, including CPR and first aid certifications.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

- Education and Experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Washington required.
- Pediatric, school-based, or community health nursing experience preferred.
- Experience in health education, wellness promotion, or preventive care strongly preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, and either current certification as a CPR/First Aid trainer or willingness and ability to obtain trainer certification to provide staff training.

Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties such as assisting with moving materials.
- Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout classrooms and school hallways for extended periods.
- Frequent interruptions due to emergent health needs and student care.
- Ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and escort students as needed between locations within and outside school buildings.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
- Evening and weekend work may be required at times
Position Details:
This is an exempt, benefits-eligible .875 FTE position. This is an in person, 11 month role working Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The annual salary for this position is $91,875, which reflects the prorated amount based on a 1.0 FTE salary of $105,000.
