About This Position
Job Summary:
Position is responsible for performing a wide variety of construction activities requiring varied experience and skill in one trade area, the dexterous use of hands and tools, and the ability to work without close supervision. Incumbents may assist Skilled Construction Workers in the areas of concrete, steel, or carpentry. The Construction Worker is the second level of an eight-level construction series. The Construction Worker is distinguished from the Laborer by the skill level required to perform craftwork in one particular area such as carpentry, concrete, or structural steel. The Construction Worker is distinguished from the Skilled Construction Worker which performs skilled activities requiring a higher level of skill and a broader knowledge base to perform tasks in two or more specialized areas.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Jobs that take basic skills
- Follows company policies and processes regarding PPE.
- Has proven to be trustworthy and willing to learn
- Performing concrete pouring activities such as moving discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms, spreading concrete into inaccessible sections of forms using rake or shovel, and smoothing freshly poured concrete using float, trowel, and screed.
- Assist in constructing wood-framed structures by shaping materials to prescribed measurements, assembling cut and shaped materials and fastening them together, erects structural framework, and lays sub flooring.
- Assisting in constructing of structural steel buildings by setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members, fastening steel member to cable of hoist and guiding member into approximate position, and aligns rivet holes and bolts aligned members until they can be permanently secured.
- Assisting in fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates; constructs forms
and chutes for pouring concrete; erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Drives stakes and stretches string line; helps set form; levels earth to fine grade specifications, using pick, shovel, and rake.
- Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces at the direction of the Job Superintendent or Foreman; mops, brushes or spreads paint or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection and waterproofing; and applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
- Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces, such as concrete, wood, and steel using abrading tools on machines.
- Demolishes buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, cutting and attaching insulating material.
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bring problems to the attention of the Superintendent, Field Safety Coordinator or HR Manager.
- Performs additional duties assigned to support project and organizational success.
Knowledge of Position (Required at Entry):
- Construction techniques (general knowledge; specific knowledge of one trade, i.e., concrete)
- Equipment uses and practices;
- Work zone safety and OSHA job site regulations;
- Hand and power tool operation;
- Company personnel policies;
- City, state and federal laws.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Reading blueprints, specification;
- Utilizing construction techniques in specialized trade areas such as concrete, steel, carpentry;
- Operating hand and power tools;
- Operating equipment such as skid loaders, air compressors; jack hammers; scissors lift, man lift (all terrain);
- Retaining new information and mastering new craft skills;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive and retain work direction.
- Valid Driver’s License Preferred
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.);
- Or two years of construction-related experience with at least one year in a specialized trade area; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent physical activity like climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, and using hands.
- Work may involve exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils, harsh weather, poor lighting, tight spaces, and loud noise.
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally (with team assistance) and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
