Position Summary
The Dock Manager is responsible for overseeing all receiving, shipping, and dock operations to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate movement of goods in and out of the facility. This role leads dock staff, manages workflow, enforces safety and compliance standards, and partners cross-functionally to ensure inventory accuracy, on-time deliveries, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Dock & Warehouse Operations
- Oversee all daily dock operations including receiving, unloading, staging, loading, and outbound shipments
- Develop and manage dock schedules to optimize throughput and minimize delays
- Ensure accurate verification of incoming and outgoing shipments against purchase orders, bills of lading, and packing lists
- Monitor dock flow and adjust staffing or processes to meet volume and service requirements
- Maintain clean, organized, and efficient dock and staging areas
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, schedule, and coach dock associates, drivers, and forklift operators
- Provide training on equipment, safety procedures, and operational standards
- Conduct performance evaluations, manage attendance, and address performance issues
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures
- Conduct regular safety inspections and lead safety meetings
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, dock levelers, etc.)
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and internal audit requirements
Inventory Control & Accuracy
- Partner with warehouse team to ensure accurate product counts and condition checks
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, damages, or shortages
- Ensure proper product rotation
- Maintain accurate documentation and system entries for all movements
Vendor, Carrier & Internal Coordination
- Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments to ensure timely arrivals and departures
- Serve as primary dock contact for drivers and delivery partners
- Resolve scheduling conflicts, delays, and service issues
- Communicate proactively with purchasing, operations, and store/location teams
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Track and report key performance metrics (on-time shipments, dock turnaround time, accuracy, safety incidents, etc.)
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational projects
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3–5+ years of warehouse, distribution, or logistics experience
- 1–3+ years of supervisory or team lead experience
- Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Strong knowledge of shipping/receiving processes and documentation
- Working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory systems
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field
- Experience in high-volume distribution, retail, food distribution, or nonprofit logistics
- OSHA or safety certification

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment and work in varying temperature conditions (if applicable)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced dock/warehouse environment with noise and heavy equipment traffic
Work Environment
- Warehouse/distribution center environment
- Exposure to moving machinery, forklifts, and loading equipment
- May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on operational needs
