About This Position

Description:

Company Description:

In 1990, a small group of dedicated volunteers with a desire to eliminate substandard housing in our community founded San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to our supporters, more than 200 local and international families have been able to build or repair their own homes here in Los Angeles’ San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Through the years, we have maintained our unrelenting determination to help families in need by offering a hand up, not a handout. Through donations, shopping at our ReStores, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.

Job Summary:

As Gift in Kind Coordinator within the Development team, you will play a pivotal role in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors who contribute non-monetary gifts to our organization. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the entire process of in-kind donations, from identification and solicitation to acknowledgment and stewardship. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to understand the organization's needs and effectively communicate those needs to potential donors. Additionally, you will develop and implement strategies to expand the gift in kind program, ensuring a diverse range of contributions that align with our mission and values. The role requires a combination of strong interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and organizational abilities to maximize the impact of in-kind donations and support the overall fundraising goals of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies to identify, solicit, and secure in-kind donations from businesses, vendors, manufacturers, and community partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors to ensure ongoing engagement and repeat contributions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between donors and internal departments (Development, Construction, ReStore, and Operations) to align donated goods with organizational needs.
  • Coordinate the full lifecycle of in-kind donations, including outreach, intake, valuation support, documentation, acknowledgment, and stewardship.
  • Research and qualify potential donation opportunities, including building materials, home improvement items, appliances, furniture, and other relevant goods.
  • Track and maintain accurate donor records, donation data, and reporting metrics using internal systems and databases.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics and ReStore teams to coordinate the pickup, delivery, and storage of donated items.
  • Ensure timely and accurate donor acknowledgment, including tax documentation support in compliance with nonprofit guidelines.
  • Support Development initiatives by contributing to fundraising strategies, donor campaigns, and partnership development efforts.
  • Represent SGV Habitat at community events, networking opportunities, and donor meetings to promote the gift-in-kind program.
  • Monitor inventory trends and organizational needs to proactively source high-demand donated goods.
  • Meet established budget and activity goals, including securing targeted donation values, maintaining a consistent pipeline of outreach (calls, meetings, and follow-ups), and tracking performance against defined metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, business development, sales, procurement, or a related field.
  • Experience working with external partners, including cold outreach, relationship building, and account management.
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment or familiarity with fundraising and donor engagement practices preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams); experience with CRM or donor management systems preferred (e.g., Charity Proud, ThriftCart).
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to travel locally for donor visits, pickups, and events as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to cultivate, grow, and sustain relationships with donors, vendors, and community partners to generate ongoing in-kind support.
  • Strong ability to identify new donation opportunities through research, networking, and cold outreach strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present organizational needs and secure donor commitments.
  • Ability to manage multiple donor relationships, donation pipelines, and logistics coordination simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to assess organizational needs, evaluate donation value, and prioritize high-impact contributions aligned with program goals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, track donation data, and generate reports using CRM and data management tools.
