About This Position
Job purpose
The SOP & Technical Writer will lead the documentation and organization of Standard Operating Procedures and other technical documentation and training. The SOP & Technical Writer is the single point of contact for all SOPs and changes to our standards.
The SOP & Technical Writer is also responsible for consistent formatting, safety standards in the SOPs, clear and concise standards, and detailed documentation. The SOP & Technical Writer must coordinate with the mangers (Production, Safety, Quality, Maintenance) on each shift to get feedback from subject matter experts (SME) through the documentation of the standards before implementation of SOP’s.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders (SME’s), such as key technical resources, production managers, supervisors, maintenance personnel, quality technicians, safety reps, and operators for input into design considerations to facilitate seamless standard implementation into operation.
- Administer technical guidance on new Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) to ensure processes, equipment, and training is efficient.
- Ensures communication with team members and area owners is consistent upon completion of SOP’s.
- Ensure revision numbers and dates are correct on submitted SOP’s
- Responsible for SOP boards and files in the binders are accurate and up to date.
- Gatekeeper for SOP files – ensure the files are in PDF format and the editable files are not compromised.
- Provides technical oversight during initial use of SOP’s and ensures proper transition of ownership to area owners and production teams.
- Available to work with contractors and technicians that visit to install/troubleshoot machines – detailed notes, pictures, descriptions, and understanding during their visits must be obtained to share on SOP’s.
- Support and Train the rollout of SOP’s to areas and operational teams when needed.
- The SOP & Technical Writer will also have the ability to supervise plant employees and provide support for teams when needed
- Maintain an organized list of all controlled documents and list of projects being worked on – PDCA
- Conduct periodic reviews of existing SOPs to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Provide training/communication to employees on new or revised SOPs, as needed on all shifts with proper notice.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices.
Qualifications
- Prefer a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in writing and maintaining SOPs in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be trustworthy, honest, and always maintains a high degree of integrity
- Must have an excellent Safety record and a champion of a Safety culture
- Must have strong, positive leadership, communication, and organization skills
- The role requires the ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
- Bilingual Preferred (Spanish)
- Must have strong PC skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
- Must be self-motivated with a high degree of integrity and be able to perform job duties with
- Past job performance must reflect dependability, maturity, initiative, positive personal
demeanor, excellent listener, and the ability to exercise good judgement
- Must have strong customer focus with ability to foster effective cross -functional partnerships
- Must have strong attention to detail and able to work independently or as a part of a team.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to the industry (e.g., FDA, OSHA) is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must have the ability to communicate information and ideas to all levels of the organization from operators / mechanics to executive leadership
Working conditions
- Must be able to work any/all shifts as assigned or required
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary, including Holidays and/or weekends as required
Physical requirements
- A non-slip resistant work shoe
- Pre-shift stretch and exercises to be performed
- Required to stand, walk, sit, and maneuver around tight areas in/on machinery.
- Noise level in the work environment may vary – may be exposed to loud noises during regular operations hours.
- Hair restraint, beard net (if needed), and Safety gloves where warranted
- Lifting at times of up to 50 lbs. without assistance and standing for most of a shift
