Description: BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Assists and performs nursing functions under the supervision of a Nursing Supervisor. All functions performed are within the limits of the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act and nursing policies and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: NO

Minimum Education: High school/GED

Degree: Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing or Medical Assistant program required

License/Certification Required: Licensed Practical Nurse in State of Tennessee or a Certified Medical Assistant

Minimum Work Experience: 1-year pediatric experience preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Skills as outlined in the LPN orientation checklist
  • Effective communication skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts a thorough health assessment of patients and record information accurately. Reports unusual data to nursing supervisor or provider in a timely manner.
  • Assesses and identifies patient symptoms and problems. Reports unusual data to nursing supervisor or provider in a timely manner. Administers nursing care in compliance with the medical and nursing plan of care.
  • Delivers patient care and education with understanding of identified or potential physiological and developmental problems, support the educational needs and learning level of families, and any present or potential environmental problems.
  • Administers medications using various methods within scope of practice (i.e. orally, IM, etc.). Obtains and handles specimens according to policy.
  • Adheres to infection control guidelines and appropriate use of PPE. Assists provider with appropriate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within scope of practice.
  • Establishes therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
  • Provides the family or caregiver with education to address health promotion and a safe environment, topics include: Healthy lifestyles, Risk-reducing behaviors, Normal/age specific care and safety,
  • Correctly evaluates and thoroughly documents response of the patient to treatments and interventions.
  • Delivers patient care while meeting quality management expectation and using appropriate tools.
  • Documentation completed in compliance with all departmental guidelines, promptly, thoroughly, and accurately.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Interacts with patients and families in a caring and professional manner to incorporate Child and Family centered care. Takes care to put patient at ease and create a comfortable environment that reduces the patient’s fear.
  • Effectively and professionally interacts and collaborates with other providers of patient’s care. Explains procedures and medications in a manner that the patient or family understands.
  • Acts as a patient advocate and assists the family in developing the skills to become advocates for their child. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested. Assists with maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly clinical and patient care area environment.
  • Acquires and maintains clinical competencies as demonstrated through return demonstration of successfully completing computer-based learning modules.
  • Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues to enhance professional development. Willingly assumes all other duties and responsibilities, as necessary. Demonstrates energy, excitement, and passion for quality work.
  • Inspires loyalty through valuing of people as the most precious asset in our organization; encourages and supports the leadership efforts of peers and colleagues. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning for self and others.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably. Consistently optimizes time efficiently and effectively and serves as a role model/resource for others. Respectfully uses hospital resources appropriately, avoiding miss-use, abuse or waste.
  • Promptly, thoroughly, and accurately records applicable patient charges to ensure appropriate billing of services. Stocks supplies and equipment in a proactive basis and/or as directed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
