The City of Chesapeake is seeking a dedicated and observant Security Officer to support operations at the Chesapeake Cares Resource Center and Community Corrections.
As a Security Officer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for visitors, clients, and staff. This position is ideal for someone with strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to de-escalate situations with professionalism and compassion.

Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and guide contracted security personnel to ensure compliance with safety protocols, patrol schedules, and fire watch duties
- Oversee security systems, including video surveillance, panic alarms, and access control; coordinate with vendors to maintain and troubleshoot equipment
- Coordinate with police and fire departments during incidents; retrieve and provide surveillance footage as requested by law enforcement
- Conduct safety drills and inspect equipment to ensure compliance with City and departmental standards
- Perform regular patrols of facilities and grounds to identify hazards, control access to restricted areas, and respond to safety alerts
- Manage visitor and temporary badge issuance and maintain inventory for access systems
- Secure facility systems as needed and perform minor maintenance tasks; maintain accurate logs and records
- Provide administrative support, including basic office tasks, and assist with training or guiding less experienced staff
- Ensure adherence to all City policies and procedures, including department-specific regulations

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in security, law enforcement, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: May be required to be certified by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), depending on assignment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

• Familiarity with security systems, surveillance technology, and emergency response protocols.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
