GENERAL SUMMARYThis position performs manual labor and semi-skilled work related to the operation and maintenance of the Township’s water system. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Working Foreman, Asst. Director and / or Director. This position provides support to other divisions / departments as may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Monitors water, sewer lift and meter stations.
- Performs meter reading activities.
- Prepares trenches for laying pipes.
- Cleans and maintains shop, tools, trucks and equipment used; performs routine maintenance, service and repair on equipment used.
- Assists in the installation, laying and maintenance of water and sewer pipes, services and hydrants, performing road patch work, the installation of interior and exterior meters and the repair and maintenance of mains.
- Operates heavy equipment as required.
- Operates various power driven tools and / or machinery as required.
- Performs routine maintenance on pumps and motors.
- Attends classes and obtains certification grade levels as requested.
- Adheres to all safety rules and regulations.
- Assists with all other water/sewer maintenance programs as directed.
- As required, performs snow and ice control operations on public roads. Drives snow plow and applies snow/ice control materials.
- Clears snow from sidewalks and parking areas at Township facilities as directed.
- Ability to work weekends when scheduled, be on call periodically, and respond to emergencies on short notice. Required to be on stand-by for snow/ice control operations.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs various labor-intensive tasks; including lifting of heavy materials, shoveling and sweeping as directed.
- Performs flagger and work zone traffic control duties as directed.
- Locates and marks areas for safe digging and / or for PA One Call purposes.
- Performs routine building maintenance tasks and minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs.
- Loads truck with appropriate equipment for daily tasks.
- Performs lawn and garden maintenance / care to include mowing, raking, watering, weeding, trimming trees and bushes, etc.
- Assists staff from other Township departments and/or divisions as needed.
- Behaves in professional and courteous manner when interacting with the public and other employees.
- Works in and around hazardous materials; must display ability to properly use and dispose of hazardous materials.
Performs other related duties as requested.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceHigh school or GED, and one year of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- General knowledge of computers and related software is required.
- Safety regulations and practices relating to water treatment stations, water distribution systems, waste water collection systems and wastewater pumping stations and heavy equipment is essential.
- Ability to maintain various records and reports is essential.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of a variety of light and heavy equipment; use of hand and power tools.
- Good physical condition is required to perform heavy physical labor.
- Skill in the operation and manipulation of snow plows, trucks and other equipment under all weather conditions.
- Ability to work alone or with others and to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Basic plumbing, painting, carpentry and landscaping.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS- CDL Class B (or must obtain CDL – Class B license within 6 months of being hired).
- Flagger certification (or must obtain flagger certification within 6 months of being hired).
Dump trucks, snow plows and other heavy equipment; various hand and electric tools; plumbing and welding equipment; meter reading equipment; lawn care equipment; pressure washer; snow blowers; electrical tester; laboratory equipment; lab analysis instruments; various pumps, motors and meters; various specialized equipment related to water / sewer operations; calculator; computer; and general office equipment.
