About This Position

Job Description:

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, while also actively managing the contract lifecycle, ensuring compliance, and mitigating risk associated with vendor and customer agreements. The Controller will lead and mentor a small, diverse accounting team. This position reports directly to the Vice President and President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide macro-level accounting guidance, best practices, and mentorship vertically and laterally to every company department.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and other financial systems.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the President, providing analysis and recommendations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and other financial service providers.
  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process.
  • Preform budget vs. actual analysis.
  • Research and analyze complex accounting issues.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Works with other departments to prepare cost estimates and cost volumes for contract proposals.
  • Review, negotiate, and draft complex contracts with vendors and clients to ensure alignment with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Manage the contract lifecycle, tracking key milestones, and ensuring compliance with contract obligations.
  • Manage contract amendments, renewals, and termination processes.
  • Develop and implement contract management procedures and best practices.
  • Identify potential risks associated with contracts and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor contract performance and address any issues that arise.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending professional and educational workshops and establishing personal networks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical KSA’s:

  • Must be skilled in the use of computers and wireless technology.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain all company training requirements.
  • Must adhere to all corporate policies, procedures, programs, goals and priorities, company core values and practices (Employee Reference Guide and other company standards).
  • Must be able to utilize standard business software applications like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects to effectively meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications/Expectations:

  • Must have a broad understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and other acceptable accounting practices.
  • Proven proficiency in cost reporting and accounting.
  • Proven experience in contract management, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, vendors, and partners.
  • Monitor contract performance and compliance, addressing any issues that arise.
  • Maintain a comprehensive contract management system.
  • Collaborate with legal, procurement, and other departments to ensure contract terms are met.
  • Provide guidance and support on contract-related matters to internal stakeholders.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with senior management.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and verbal skills to interface with customers and colleagues.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to manipulate equipment of all sizes, tools, computer keyboards, telephones etc.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses:

  • MBA or bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting required.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) desired
  • CMA (Certified Management Accountant) desired
  • CPCM (Certified Professional Contracts Manager) desired
  • CFCM (Certified Federal Contracts Manager) desired
  • 10 years of experience in financial management showing increasing levels of responsibility and competency.
  • Two years’ experience in government or commercial contract work

  • U.S. citizenship is required, and applicants must successfully complete a lengthy background screening process.

  • Must be willing to travel up to 10%
  • Must live within a 2-hour drive distance of Bob Sikes Airport
