We are currently seeking Intermediate Structural Designer(s) to join our dynamic team. As an integral member of the team, you will have the opportunity to deliver structural design and drafting services. Your pride in supporting engineers in producing high quality, practical designs from concept through to commissioning will be a vital part of this diverse and interesting position. Your desire to complete projects as accurately and as efficiently as possible will lead to opportunities to manage a small group of designers.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce a variety of discipline specific project drawings and 3D models:
    • Steel structures including piperacks, platforms and miscellaneous equipment supports.
    • Deep foundations including driven steel piles, helical piles and cast in place concrete piles.
    • Shallow foundations including spread footings and slab on grade.
    • Building layouts
  • Creates and modifies drawings based on sketches, templates, previous designs, or 3D models.
  • Collects, organizes, and evaluates data from various sources (i.e. previous designs, studies, suppliers, and other references).
  • Attends design meetings.
  • Interprets and carries out creative ideas independently or as proposed by other senior specialists, designers, or engineers.
  • Follow company standards and procedures including checking drawings.
  • Attend internal training lessons
  • Prepare technical drawing packages for submission to various external parties.
  • Produces and maintains discipline specific drawing sets.
  • Prepare material take-offs.
  • May act as a coordinator:
    • Mentor junior designers / drafters.
    • Coordinate tasks and work schedules to achieve the project objectives.
    • Work with different disciplines to resolve design problems, discuss project criteria, and facilitate smooth project coordination.
    • Provide recommendations and implement design tools to improve drafting efficiencies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with technical diploma in Structural Engineering, Construction, CAD/CADD, Design/Drafting, and/or Applies Sciences.
  • Junior: 1+ years drafting 2D experience.
  • Intermediate: 4+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of studies.
  • Senior: 8+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of studies
  • Intermediate familiarity with various computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software, including Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Advanced Steel and/or Hexagon CADWorx structures programs would be an asset. We do offer training to designers who offer the correct experience and skills.
  • Ability to develop concept structural design models to present to the engineer.
  • Valid technical software vendor certification is preferred, including Autodesk AutoCAD Certified User or Professional, Autodesk Certified Professional in AutoCAD for Design and Drafting.
  • Ability to perform 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Ability to use judgment and critical thinking to solve problems based on guidelines and procedures.
  • Exercises proactive decision making.
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks and make technical decisions in accordance with established engineering standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently in accordance with established drafting protocols
  • Self-motivated with good communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Positive, creative, and with a continuous learning mindset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products is preferred.
  • Registered Graduate Technologist and Technician (GradTech) with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) preferred.
  • Interest in green energy industrial plant design.
  • Experience drafting industrial structures such as mining, forestry, natural gas, LNG, or offshore would be preferred.

Salary is based on an average of 37.5 hours a week. The competitive salary will be based on skills and experience.

Estimated range is between $64,000-81,000+/annually
