The role ensures compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, cultivates a strong safety culture that reduces incidents, and supports environmental initiatives through collaboration with the Senior Engineering Manager. The Director also partners with other departments to align safety, training, and employee engagement initiatives to reinforce a positive workplace culture.

Safety Leadership

  • Develop and maintain company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures aligned with OSHA and FMCSA (DOT) requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of batch plants, vehicles, and job sites to identify and correct unsafe behaviors or conditions.
  • Lead accident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions.
  • Oversee safety training for all employees, including new hire orientation, toolbox talks, and job-specific certifications.
  • Manage fleet safety programs, including driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, hours-of-service tracking, and substance testing compliance.
  • Drive the development of a proactive safety culture by engaging employees at all levels, reducing incidents, and reinforcing accountability for safe behaviors.

Environmental Compliance (Support Role)

  • Support environmental compliance efforts in partnership with the Senior Engineering Manager, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on environmental permitting requirements (e.g., stormwater, SPCC, air quality) but defer technical planning and engineering-based compliance to the Senior Engineering Manager.
  • Conduct periodic site audits related to dust control, material handling, and waste management practices.
  • Assist with documentation and reporting obligations (such as Tier II or annual submissions), focusing on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Promote environmental awareness and integrate stewardship into workforce training and overall safety culture initiatives.

Collaboration with Internal Stakeholders

  • Partner with HR to integrate safety culture into onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training programs.
  • Collaborate with HR on employee wellness, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work processes.
  • Provide safety data and insights for workforce planning, employee engagement, and retention strategies.
  • Work jointly with Marketing and HR on communication campaigns that promote safety awareness and reinforce “The DELTA Difference” values.
  • Support leadership development programs with safety modules, ensuring supervisors and managers are equipped to lead safe teams.

Administrative & Strategic Duties

  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to track and report safety performance to executive leadership.
  • Prepare for and lead responses to agency inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Serve as primary contact for OSHA, DOT, and insurance providers; support engineering on environmental agency interactions.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices; recommend and implement updates as needed.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional Safety Committees.

Required:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in safety management, preferably in construction, ready mix, or heavy manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and general environmental requirements.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to multiple job sites and facilities.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CHST, or REM.
  • Familiarity with SWPPP, SPCC, and NPDES permitting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
